After selling out its first two sections in one year, Clear Lake Pines announced it would open a third sector. Work also was underway on a restaurant and motel at the resort development near Winchester owned by V.A. (Boss) Hrbacek.

The Rural Electrification Administration announced it had approved a $1,668,000 loan for Colorado Valley Telephone Cooperative. The money was earmarked for upgrading rural telephone facilities in Borden, High Hill and Moravia, and installing 68 miles of underground cable to convert the three exchanges to one-party lines. The loan also would finance facilities to serve 282 new subscribers who were anticipated to join over the next five years, according to manager Jack Campbell. Direct distance dialing (DDD) throughout the co-op’s six exchanges was expected to be complete in one year, the same timeframe that DDD was coming to La Grange. The Warrenton exchange had been the first in the system to be converted to all-one party with all cable lines underground.

La Grange City Council adopted an ordinance establishing two-hour parking on W. Colorado St. between N. Jefferson and N. Washington. Effective August 24, a $5 fine would be in effect for each violation.

Fayette County, which had recorded production since 1943, had a total crude oil output of 5,469,981 barrels to the beginning of 1971. Production in 1970 alone was 244,127 barrels at the rate of 669 barrels per day.

Eleven directors were elected at a meeting of the general membership of Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club held at the Pro Shop. Those selected were: Leslie Blume, Wilbert Gross, Leo Tiemann, Fritz Lobpries, Dr. E.L. Fitzpatrick, Joe Hild, C.F. Weigman, Tommy Brasher, Robert Holick, Edwin Zapalac and O.W. Craddock.

The Farmers Home Administration disbursed $104 million in loans to 9,346 drought-affected farmers and ranchers in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.

Brenda Lehmann, queen of the Fayette County Farm Bureau, was representing Fayette County in the District XI Farm Bureau Queen Contest in Katy. Brenda was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis P. Lehmann.

The Muldoon Brotherhood and W.M.U. were hosting a fish fry supper at Highline Tank at the C. Rightmer farm. They were serving fish they caught earlier in the day.

The Round Top-Carmine High School cheerleaders attended the National Cheerleaders Association clinic in Sequin. Jerry Karstedt, Debra (Rusty) Campbell, Debbie Wunderlich, Melba Wickel and La Donna Rogers learned new yells, chants and jumps.

Bob Adamcik’s Restaurant on Hwy. 90 W. in Schulenburg was advertising a Friday all-you-can-eat special of freshwater catfish, French fried potatoes, hush puppies, salad and choice of salad dressing for $2.25.

Plum was holding a homecoming bazaar on September 5.

Cash & Carry Grocery advertised the following specials: Del Monte fresh whole dill pickles, 26 oz., 49¢; Libby’s cream style corn, 3 cans for 37¢; Glen Park green beans, 2 cans for 27¢; Gladiola flour, 25 lb. sack, $2.29 or 5 lbs., 59¢; R.C. Cola, 12 bottles, 89¢, plus deposit; Bama jelly, grape or plum, 8 oz., 2 for 69¢; Mrs. Tucker’s shortening, 3 lb. can, 73¢; Kellogg’s Corn Flakes, 12 oz. box, 29¢; and Northern bathroom tissue, 4-roll pack, 43¢.

Ray Baca’s Band would be making things merry from 2 to 5 p.m. at a 75th birthday party for Ed Hruska on Sun., August 15.

Lora Blume, 16, was selected Miss La Grange for 1971-72 at the annual La Grange Recreation Association Aqua Show. Rose Marie Teinert, the reigning Miss La Grange, presented Lora with a trophy and a large bouquet of red roses. The daughter of Mrs. Allyne Blume and the late Walter Blume, Lora was a junior at La Grange High School and a majorette in the LGHS band.

Bruce Jaster, who had been associated with radio station KVLG in La Grange since March, was hired as state coordinator for the Infonet Division of Media Communications, Inc., an advertising and public relations company in Austin. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert A. Jaster of La Grange was a 1970 graduate of the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree in communications.

Funeral services were held for Ernest Otto Stork, 88, a native of Fayette County and Otto Hoffmann, 86, of Freyburg.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry H. Cordes observed their golden wedding anniversary on Sun., August 8 at St. Paul Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. The former Laura Treybig married Harry H. Cordes on August 10, 1921, in her parents’ home near Park.

La Grange Motor Co. was advertising the Torino two-door hardtop loaded with extras, including a vinyl top for $3,650. A Mustang special value package was closeout priced at $3,575.
