Record Says Goodbye to News Correspondent
After Hundreds of Columns, Schmitt Retiring; Stephens to Write Fayetteville News

This edition of The Fayetteville News marks Alice Schmitt’s final report. She has informed the Record that she would like to retire to simplify her life –and we can’t blame her.
Schmitt’s retirement marks the end of a remarkable run at the Record.
She answered a newspaper ad in May of 1968 and started here in the subscription department and worked until 1972.
She returned to the office for a year after the birth of her daughter, but then in the early 1980s became The Fayetteville News Correspondent and wrote the weekly column several hundred times over until August 1994, when she quit to become manager of Keilers Restaurant.
Several years ago we asked her to come back to write The Fayetteville News again.
We’d like to thank her for all her years of service to the Record, and to the readers in Fayette County.
Food Truck
The Central Texas Food Bank truck will be in Fayetteville on Friday, Feb. 5 from 10- 11 a.m. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Recreation Hall. This is a drive-thru event and all clients are asked to stay in their vehicles.
Recycling Trailer
The recycling trailer for Fayette County is at the trash grounds on Columbus Lane just outside of Fayetteville on Tuesday afternoons. Some items that can be recycled are newspapers, magazines, phone books, cardboard, paper, and no. 2 food grade plastics. Also steel food cans and aluminum cans are accepted. All items should be separated for the convenience of the workers who are there with the truck to assist everyone.

February birthday celebrants are Melissa Weishuhn and Ruth Noska-1; and Mandy Wells-3.
New Correspondent
Cindy Stephens will be the new Fayetteville correspondent.
