Feed The Need
Feed the Need, a non-profit organization based in Bastrop whose mission is to feed people physically and spiritually, will provide free burgers every Monday at 6:30 p.m. at 901 Mode Lane in La Grange. This location is near White Rock Park and everyone is welcome.
St. James BBQ
St. James Episcopal Men’s Club will hold a barbecue Saturday, Feb. 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken will be $3.50 and sausage link $5, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of the Bugle Boy Foundation. The Holy Smokers will be observing COVID-19 protocols.
Garage Sale
The Round Top Area Historical Society is hosting their annual garage sale at 399 E. Mill St. behind the Round Top Post Office on Feb. 13, 14, 20 and 21. For questions, contact Rose Diers at (713) 376-9454.
Second Saturday
Second Saturday on the square is Feb. 13 from 3 to 6 p.m. The Gaga Ball Tournament begins at 5 p.m. with prizes. Order food from local restaurants and food trucks and enjoy live music by Josh Tiemann. Shop local businesses and local vendors. Locally made snacks available. Handmade product vendors welcome.
LG Domino Tournament Canceled
The annual Knights of Columbus Domino Tournament in La Grange that is usually scheduled the last Sunday in February has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
RT Library Valentine Benefit
The Round Top Festival Institute’s annual Valentine’s Library Benefit is happening virtually, Saturday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m. Dick Smith and family present The Show Must Go On. The free pre-recorded concert benefits the Festival Institute’s Faith P. and Charles L. Bybee Library and Study Center. A YouTube link will be made available to the public Saturday at 10 a.m. at festivalhill.org and via email. The Adopt-a-Book has also moved online with over 70 books available to adopt through a special donation. Dick Smith, J. Gary Smith, Will Lynde and Arden Johnson return (virtually) to play and sing songs of the heart, including songs by George and Ira Gershwin and the Beatle’s John Lennon and Paul McCartney. This year the library benefit is running a 72-hour online Library Giving Campaign. The goal is to raise $5,000 in support of the Bybee Library. All donors who give during the Library Giving Campaign, including donors who adopt a book, will be entered into a drawing to win one of two $200 H-E-B gift cards. Winners will be contacted by email and announced on the website Tuesday afternoon. Gift cards will be mailed. The Campaign will launch at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 and end at 10 a.m. on the following Tuesday, Feb. 16.
AMEN Pantry Holiday Hours
The AMEN Food Pantry will be closed Monday, Feb. 15, for Presidents Day and will reopen for food distribution on Tuesday, Feb. 16 from 9 a.m. until 12 noon.
Garbage Holiday Schedule
La Grange City offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 15, in observance of Presidents’ Day. Waste Management will be working their normal garbage schedule. For additional information, call (979) 968-3127.
Chicken Fried Steak Dinner Drive-Thru
The Hostyn Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Queen of the Holy Rosary No. 2282 will hold a drive-thru fundraiser at the KC Hall in La Grange on Tuesday, Feb. 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. The meal will consist of chicken fried steak, buttered noodles, mixed vegetable blend, white gravy and a roll for $10 a plate. Ash Wednesday Service
La Grange First United Methodist Church, located at 1215 N. Von Minden, will hold an Ash Wednesday Service with the imposition of ashes on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. in the sanctuary. The service is open to the public.
Republican Women Meeting
The Fayette County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, Feb. 18 at the La Grange City Hall Council Chambers, 155 E. Colorado in La Grange. Social time starts at 6 p.m. with the business meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. The featured speaker will be Mark Goloby who comes with a wealth of experience revealing and reducing the abuses of Taxpayer Funded Lobbying. Mark founded TC Research Institute that performs review and analysis of policies of public funds for private gain. TCRI strives to separate public/private endeavors that truly serve the public good from those that only benefit the organizations which use legislation to their singular advantage. KC Fish Fry Drive-Thru
The KC Center in La Grange located at 190 S. Brown Street will host a fish fry drive-thru on Friday, Feb. 19 from 4-6 p.m. The plate of fried fish, buttered potatoes, pinto beans and coleslasw is $10 each. Call (979) 968-5117 to reserve your plates.
Central Texas Food Bank Truck
The Central Texas Food Bank Truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church located at the junction FM-1291 and FM-2145 on Friday, Feb. 19 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. It will be drive-thru only and all clients are to remain in their vehicles. Someone will be there to direct traffic. Clients are advised to make room inside their car trunks and truck beds. Food boxes will be pre-packaged and placed into each vehicle by volunteers.
Parkinson’s Support Group
For anyone struggling with the Parkinson’s disease movement disorder, the group has reactivated in La Grange the third Thursday of every month for patients and caregivers. FYI & Winedale Zoom Meeting
The Winedale Lunch & Learn and the Round Top Family Library FYI presents their next joint Zoom meeting: German-Texas Research at the Texas Land Office by Kevin Klaus on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at noon. Donation Of Items Needed
The Rotary Club of La Grange is sponsoring a drive to collect donations of items to help the Children’s Advocacy Center serving Bastrop, Lee and Fayette Counties. The center is in need of new stuffed animals to give to the children who are coming to see them. These children are coming to be interviewed to see if they have experienced some form of abuse. A cuddly friend sometimes helps to make that journey easier, and hopefully less traumatic. They are also seeking non-perishable food items for their on-site pantry, to provide to families and caregivers in need. Needed items included: granola bars, apple sauce pouches, crackers with cheese, fruit snacks, whole grain chips, and Teddy Grahams. Donations can be dropped off at the Historic Casino Hall Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The last day to participate in the collection is Friday, Feb. 26.
Texas A&M Scholarship Applications
Seniors of Fayette County high schools and past graduates of the county’s schools who are currently enrolled in a junior college or another institution of higher learning that are planning to attend Texas A&M University are strongly encouraged to apply for the Fayette County Texas A&M Scholarship. Applications may be turned into your current or past high school counselor or principal or delivered to the Fayette County A&M Club, P.O. Box 1044 La Grange, TX 78945. Applications must be received or postmarked no later than March 1.
Industry Knights of Columbus Fundraiser
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Industry Knights of Columbus Msgr. Edward Geiser Council 10224 are postponing their annual February fried chicken and raffle fundraiser until a later date.
La Grange Hermann Sons Lodge
Due to COVID-19, the La Grange Hermann Sons Lodge No. 8 will begin having quarterly meetings. The next meeting will be Thursday, April 8 at 11 a.m. at the Riverside Cafe.
