VFW Meeting

The VFW Post No. 5254 will meet at the post home at the fairgrounds on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m. No meal will be served.

Republican Women

The Fayette County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, Jan. 21 at the La Grange City Hall Council Chambers, 155 E. Colorado, in La Grange. Social time starts at 6 p.m. business meeting at 6:30 p.m. Our featured speaker will be Kathy Haigler. She is one of “The Texas 8” who served as Trump Observers in the Dane County, Wisconsin ballot recount. Kathy has been a Precinct Chair, County Chair, SREC Committeewoman, State Party Secretary, Election Judge, Poll Watcher, Ballot Board Member and a Presidential Elector. An unequivocal protector of ballot security, she shares her vast knowledge of Election Law, and her experience and skills for researching election records that led her to become an independent Election Administration Consultant. County Clerk’s Office Closed

Due to COVID-19 exposure, the Fayette County Clerk’s Office will be closed to the public until Wednesday, Jan. 20. For assistance, call (979) 968-3251.

Parkinson’s Support Group

For anyone struggling with Parkinson’s movement disorder, the group has reactivated in La Grange the third Thursday of every month for patients and caregivers. The meetings begin at 10 a.m. at the Randolph Recreation Center located at 653 E. Pearl Street. For more information, call (832) 561-1447.

Curbside Bulk Trash Pickup

The City of La Grange has designated Saturday, Jan. 23 as Residential Bulk Curbside Pick-Up Day for the hard to dispose of bulky items. Republic Services will pick up one free load of bulky items on this day. All items should be within three feet of the curb by 5 p.m. on Friday. Trucks will be starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning to pick up items from the entire city. Bulk items include: stoves, refrigerators and air conditioners which have been tagged and certified as being “freon free” by a licensed technician, microwaves, water heaters, washing machines/dryers, barbecues, mattresses, chairs, recliners, couches and other furniture. Bulk items not accepted: tires, paint, chemicals, batteries, tile/toilets/bath tubs, mirrors/glass, cinder blocks/bricks/rocks, construction debris, televisions/computer monitors, motor oil or used filters. CDA No. 1962 Meeting

CDA Court Annunciation No. 1962 of La Grange and Plum will be meeting on Monday, Jan. 25 at the narthex meeting room at Sacred Heart Church in La Grange at 7 p.m. The raffle drawing will take place and election of delegates for the State Convention will be held. Members are encouraged to attend and potential new members are always welcome.

Animal Shelter Benefit Dinner

A benefit dinner for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter will be held Thursday, Jan. 28, drive-thru only from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the La Grange KC Community Center located at 190 S. Brown Street. The meal will consist of chicken fried chicken breast, noodles, mixed veggies, gravy and roll for $10. Tickets can be purchased at the Animal Shelter at 240 Svoboda Lane, LG Spirits, and the Hartland Real Estate office in La Grange.
