Gifted & Talented
La Grange ISD is taking nominations for grades 1-11 for the Gifted and Talented program for the 2026-2027 school year. The Gifted and Talented program is designed to provide additional challenge and stimulation for academically talented students. Parents, teachers and community members may nominate students currently enrolled in LGISD to participate in the screening process to determine eligibility for the gifted program. Nomination forms are available in the La Grange Elementary School office or on the La Grange ISD website on the Gifted and Talented page. All nominations are due by Feb. 1, 2026. Habitat ReStore
Fayette County Habitat for Humanity ReStore is open for sales and donation drop-off every Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at 825 N. Main St. in Schulenburg. The ReStore sells and accepts donations of home goods to support Habitat’s mission. Visit www.fchfh.org/ReStore.
There’s more Hermann Sons Rutersville will hold their January membership meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 7 beginning at 7 p.m. The main meal will be provided. Please bring your favorite sides or desserts to share.
La Grange Senior Citizen Game Day
The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center Inc. will host Game Day on Thursday, Jan. 8 from 9-11:30 a.m. at the City of La Grange Randolph Recreation Center. St. James BBQ & Bake Sale
The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club (Holy Smokers) will hold a BBQ and the Episcopal Women will hold a bake sale Saturday, Jan. 10, from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken $6 and sausage link $7, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of Tejas Health Clinic.
La Grange Show Fund Fun Night
The 22nd Annual La Grange Show Fund Fun Night will be held on Jan. 10, at the Round Up Hall Fair Pavillion. Invitations have been mailed out. We have single entrance tickets available for purchase at Fayette Savings Bank in La Grange and also available from any Show Fund member. This ticket includes a rib-eye steak dinner, drinks, dessert and the opportunity to play games. This event directly supports the 4H and FFA students that participate in the Fayette County Junior Livestock Show. This is a 21 and up event only. Retired Teachers Meeting
The Fayette County Retired Teachers Association will meet on Monday, Jan. 12 in the Fellowship Hall of the New Life Methodist Church, 1215 Von Minden Road in La Grange, for a chapter meeting at 1:30 p. m. All retired teachers and school personnel are welcome to attend. Guest presenter will be Becka Yepes, who will instruct attendees with stretching and chair yoga movements to improve mobility and health. Teacher appreciation baskets for Fayette County schools will be prepared. Bring goodies and snacks to celebrate our hardworking educators.
Dinner and a Movie
The Casino Arts Association Present Dinner and a Movie showing “Cactus Jack,” a western comedy starring Kirk Douglas, Ann Margaret and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The event will be Jan. 17 at the Casino Hall at 254 N. Jefferson in La Grange. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the meal at 6 p.m. The movie starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 a person. Drive-Thru Fried Chicken & Sausage The La Grange Knights of Columbus will sponsor a drive-thru only fried chicken and sausage dinner benefitting local charities on Sunday, Jan. 18, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Community Center in La Grange, 190 S. Brown St. The meal will include fried chicken, sausage, sauerkraut, green beans and buttered potatoes for $15 per plate. The meal is first come, first served.
Vietnam Veterans Chapter 870 Meeting The next Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 meeting will be held on Jan. 21 at the Ammannsville KJT Hall with the meeting starting at 7 p.m. Refreshments and a meal will be served after the meeting. All Vietnam Veteran members, associate members, and prospective are invited.
Barbecue Rack of Ribs
The Mt. Calvary Men’s Club will be selling barbecue racks of ribs on Sunday, Feb. 8 (Super Bowl Sunday). The racks will be $25 per rack. This will be pre-sale tickets only. Only 250 tickets will be sold. Ribs can be picked-up at the Mt.
