LHS Book Fair

Grief Support

The La Grange High School Book Fair will be held Monday-Wednesday, Dec. 8-10 from 8:30 a.m.-6:15 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 11 from 8:30 a.m.- 4:15 p.m. at the La Grange High School Library.

Hospice Brazos Valley offers a support group for parents and grandparents who have lost a child who could have been any age and long ago or recent. The group meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 10-11:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Rutersville, 5743 FM-159, La Grange. For more information, call Cindy Fanning at (979) 431-1556.

Xmas Open House

Join a festive Christmas Open House at the Fayette Public Library. Set a reminder for Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Celebrate the holiday season featuring delicious food, holiday refreshments, fun take-home crafts for kids, and joyful Christmas music to get you in the holiday spirit. Ledbetter Christmas Lane of Lights

The Ledbetter Volunteer Fire Department’s annual Christmas Lane of Lights, a fun family event for all ages, will open Thanksgiving weekend and will be open every Friday and Saturday evening until Christmas. Dates this year are: Dec. 12 and 13; and Dec. 19 and 20 from 6-8:30 p.m. Cost is $10 per person, children 2 years and under are free. The Lane of Lights is held in downtown Ledbetter at FM 1291 and Hwy. 290. Hot chocolate, wassail, popcorn and cookies will be served with music and Santa each night. American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 102

The American Legion Post and Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will host their annual Christmas Party on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive at the Fair Grounds in La Grange. Come join for an evening of fellowship and dinner. The social hour will begin at 5 p.m. followed by a catered meal served at 6 p.m. The Post and Unit members and their spouse/guest are invited to attend this festive event honoring and thanking our Veterans for their Service to our Country.

Senior Citizen Game Day

The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center Inc. will host Game Day on Thursday, Dec. 11, from 9 - 11:30 a.m. at the City of La Grange Randolph Recreation Center. Friends N Fellowship

Join New Life Methodist Church for fellowship on Thursdy, Dec. 11 at the Fellowship Hall, 1215 N. Von Minden in La Grange, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for chili, frito pie, cornbread, and you bring a dessert. Teresa Stanley Brown from the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter will be the guest speaker. Buzz on Pollination Program

LaBahia Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas presents: The Buzz on Pollination on Friday, Dec. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at Nancy Carol Roberts Library in Brenham. Pollination isn’t just a buzzword in the news – it’s a deeply bizarre, fascinating, and essential part of life on this planet. In this talk we’ll explore why flowers exist in the first place, their intricate and sometimes unsettling relationships with animals, what pollinators you can find in your backyard, and why pollination is crucial for human survival. Guest speaker is Kelsey Low, Adult Programs Manager at the Houston Arboretum, where she helps other adults connect to Houston’s urban wilderness through classes on native plants, art, cooking, and bird watching. She has been a bird watcher for nearly 25 years and is particularly fascinated by bird behavior. A committed advocate for nature in the city, she is a Texas Certified Environmental Educator and a member of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Urban Outreach Advisory Committee and the City of Sugar Land PARCS Board.

The City of La Grange Recreation Department will host Breakfast With Santa at the Randolph Recreation Center, 653 East Pearl, in the West Gym & Building D on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 8:30-11 a.m. Participants can bring their wish list to Santa, have a photo taken, enjoy breakfast, be creative with crafts, and win prizes. This event is free for all ages and is sure to be a funfilled morning of winter fun.

Hermann Sons Life

The Hermann Sons Life Plum Christmas Party will be held Saturday, Dec. 13 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Prairie Valley Schoolhouse located at 2510 Williams Rd. in West Point.

RT Shelby Lodge of Hermann Sons Life The Round Top-Shelby Lodge of Hermann Sons Life will be collecting items for the children of CASA. Any items needed and used by children between the ages of birth and 18 years are requested. Some items needed are diapers, clothing - warm outer wear, pajamas, socks and underwear, toiletries and accessories, totes, backpacks, duffel bags and small pieces of luggage. Members and friends are invited to bring items to the Lodge Christmas party on Dec. 14, or drop them off at Round Top Real Estate office who is again a partner in this event. The annual Round Top-Shelby Lodge of Hermann Sons Life Christmas Party will be Sunday, Dec. 14, with a meeting starting at 11 a.m. A catered meal will be served at noon. Members may bring desserts. The “Rob Your Neighbor” game will follow lunch, so bring a wrapped gift to put under the tree. Also, a collection of items for CASA will be collected. Sunday, Dec. 14, the Chancel Choir and Glory Tones Handbell Choir of New Life Methodist Church present their Christmas Cantata, “Only a Breath Away.” It is our gift to you at the 9 a.m. service, 1215 N. Von Minden Rd., La Grange. Under the direction of Nancy Hajek and accompanied by Ruby McGuill, the narrator, Rachel Smith, takes on the role of a homeless person (who just might be only a breath away), along with Molly Hudson who retells the Christmas story. Beautiful choral and handbell arrangements from several composers will be woven within the story.

Old-Time Christmas Caroling

Join for an evening of old-time Christmas caroling on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 5:30 p.m. in the old church building on Skull Creek Rd. in Shelby. This annual event is a season-favorite. Neighbors, family and friends come together to enjoy singing, delicious refreshments, and celebrate the spirit of the season. This event is hosted by the Shelby Area Historical Society. The silent auction benefits the historical society and is a great opportunity to do some Christmas shopping. Bring a flashlight, a blanket if it’s cold weather, refreshments to share, and invite others to join the fun.

The Ellinger Hermann Sons Life will meet on Monday, Dec. 15 at the Ellinger Fire Station at 6 p.m.

Flatonia-Cistern Farm Bureau

The Flatonia-Cistern Farm Bureau Christmas dinner and 2025 quarterly meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at the American Legion Hall in Flatonia. Social hour will start at 6 p.m. and Dinner will be served at 6:30. The guest speaker will be Alexander Ross Hernandez, attorney from Flatonia. A business meeting will follow the meal.

LG VFW Post, Auxiliary Christmas Party The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5254 and Auxiliary of La Grange will hold their annual Christmas Party on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the VFW Post Home located at 500 Veterans Memorial Drive in La Grange. Social begins at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m., followed by a brief program.

Vietnam Veterans Chapter 870 The Vietnam Veterans Chapter No. 870 Dec. 17, meeting is the annual Christmas gathering including spouse and guests. Social Hour will start at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. at the Ammannsville KJT Hall.

Christmas Candy & Bake Sale

Join St. Mary’s Altar Society for a Christmas Candy and Bake Sale on Saturday, Dec. 20 from 8-11:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Parish Hall next to St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Hostyn Hill near Ellinger. Kolaches, cakes, homemade candy, cookies, pies, Christmas items and more will be available. Hot dogs, chili dogs and sandwiches will also be available at 9 a.m. Raffle tickets will be sold and prizes will be awarded at 11:30 a.m.
