Fall Clean Up Days
The City of La Grange has designated Oct. 10-17 as Fall Cleanup Days. The City will pick up one free load of brush during these days. One load of brush is defined as not more than one pickup truck load. If you have logs, separate them from the branches. Also, make sure there is no trash, no piles of leaves, no lumber, or construction debris mixed in with the brush. The following schedule will be observed: Oct. 10 and 14 - South Side of the city (Travis St. - Hwy. 71 Bus.); Oct. 15 and 16 - North Side of the city; Oct. 17 - Cedar Creek and bypass. The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club (Holy Smokers) will hold a barbecue and the women will hold a bake sale Saturday, Oct. 11 from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken is $6 and sausage link is $7, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of Serenity Star.

Columbus Day Garbage Schedule
City offices will be closed on Monday, Oct. 13 for the Columbus Day Holiday. The week of Oct. 13-17 is garbage and recycling week. Waste Management will not have a holiday and will run their normal schedule. If you need additional information, please call (979) 968-3127.

Fayette County Retired Teachers The Fayette County Retired Teacher will meet Monday, Oct. 13 at 1:30 p.m. at New Life Methodist Church in La Grange. Guest speaker will be Joe Ramirez, Texas Retired Teachers District 13 President. Mr. Ramirez will speak about the Virtual House of Delegates, a tool for connecting FCRTA to all other districts in Texas for easy access to policy and decision making affecting retirees. Mid-Tex Producer Workshop
All cattle producers are welcome to a Mid-Tex Producer Workshop on Tuesday, Oct. 14 from 1-5 p.m. at the 2 Bar C Ranch located at 17968 FM 1322 in Luling. This event is free to attend. Fayette County Republican Women The public is invited to attend the Fayette County Republican Women General Meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club, 575 Country Club Drive in La Grange. Check-in begins at 10:45 a.m. Lunch is available for $20. Program speaker will be featuring Chief Justice Jimmy Blacklock. Chief Justice Blacklock was first appointed to the Supreme Court of Texas in January 2018 by Governor Greg Abbott. Justice Blacklock was elected by the public following his appointment and re-elected in 2024. Governor Abbott then appointed him to serve as the Court’s 28th Chief Justice in January 2025. Before joining the Court, Chief Justice Blacklock served as Governor Abbott’s General Counsel and in the Attorney General’s Office under then-AG Abbott. While at the AG’s Office, he handled appeals and trials of constitutional cases in state and federal court involving matters such as federalism, religious liberty, and the separation of powers. Earlier in his career, Chief Justice Blacklock was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, and he worked in private practice in Houston and Austin. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas and a J.D. from Yale Law School. Also joining us will be Senator Mayes Middleton, candidate for Texas Attorney General. Genealogy Workshop at Library
The Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives is offering a free workshop that includes eight streamed genealogy programs on Friday, Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. You may attend one or all of the sessions which will take place in the meeting room of the Fayette Public Library at 855 S. 3rd Annual Monster Dash in Schulenburg Turtle Wing Foundation will be hosting their 13th Annual Monster Dash Sunday, Oct. 19 from 5-7 p.m. at Jack & Mary’s located at 610 Lyons Ave. in Schulenburg. The event will consist of the “Boo Around the Block” with plenty of local businesses and organizations handing out candy and hosting games, the Jack Hooper costume contest, a performance by On Pointe Dance Studio, a bake sale, and of course, the Monster Dash. Come out and see if you’re the fastest (or the scariest) in town, it will be spook-tacular. The event is free to attend. With the tremendous support of numerous volunteers, the C.A.S.T for Kids Foundation hosts annual fishing and boating events across America to provide children with special needs a quality outdoor recreational experience. Nominations For Gifted And Talented La Grange ISD is currently taking gifted and talented nominations for kindergarten students at La Grange Elementary School. The gifted and talented program is designed to provide additional challenge and stimulation for academically talented students. If you would like to nominate a child for the gifted and talented screening process, fill out a parent/community nomination form and return it to the La Grange Elementary School office. All nominations are due by Nov. 15. The nomination form can be found in the gifted and talented section of the LGISD website under “Documents and Forms” and in the La Grange Elementary School office.

Vietnam Veterans Meeting
