Cemetery Meeting

CDA Meeting
Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Annunciation No. 1962, La Grange will hold it’s monthly meeting on Monday, Jan. 24 at the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewcz Center in La Grange. Please note the meeting time change. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Donations to the Georgetown Annunciation Maternity Home will be accepted. Members are encourage to attend and prospective members are always welcome.
German Society
The Fayette County Chapter of the Texas German Society will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. at the Texas Heros Museum in La Grange. Lunch will follow in a local restaurant. Members are encouraged to attend. Visitors are always welcome.
VFD Game Day
The Ledbetter Volunteer Fire Department will hold its first 2022 Game Day on Tuesday, Jan. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Adults of all ages are invited for a time of games, visiting with neighbors, and a delicious lunch. Game Day will consist of board games, table games, card games, and Domino games. Everyone is invited to the Ledbetter Community Center at 301 W. Labadie St. (the Ledbetter Fire Dept.) in Ledbetter. The event is sponsored by Ledbetter Volunteer Fire Department and Soul Café. Lunch is $5 per person. Bring your favorite table games or just come and visit your neighbors for game day the fourth Tuesday of each month. For additional information, call (979) 249-2175.
Community Blood Drive

LG Garden Club Meeting
The La Grange Garden Club will meet at the Randolph Recreation Center located at 653 E. Pearl St. at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27. This month’s program will feature Donnie Dippel, owner of a local land management business, who will provide information on preparing for a spring garden, soil testing, fertilizing, weed control, etc. Everyone is invited to attend and new members are always welcome. Dinner & A Movie Night at Casino Hall
For an evening of fun and entertainment the Casino Arts Association has scheduled “Dinner & A Movie Night” on Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Historic Casino Hall. A dinner of pork schnitzel, noodles, red cabbage and German chocolate cake will be served starting at 5:45 p.m. and then the movie “The Monuments Men” will begin around 6:15 p.m. Beer and wine will be offered through a free will donation. Texas Blacksmithing Conference
The Texas Blacksmithing Conference will take place Saturday, Jan. 29 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center located at 250 West Fairgrounds Rd. in La Grange. LHS Softball Alumni Game
The La Grange High School Softball Alumni Game will take place on Saturday, Jan. 29. Former players, old and new, are encouraged to come out for a fun day back on the diamond. The game starts at 11 a.m.
Optimist Club Scholarship Contest
The La Grange Optimist Club is again holding a scholarship contest with a local cash prize of $500 to the winner. The local winner will advance to the district contest for a chance at a $2,500 scholarship. Essays must be between 700-800 words and be on the topic of “How Does an Optimistic Mindset Change My Tomorrow?” Deadline to receive entries is Feb. 7. Send the essay along with a cover page including name and contact information to La Grange Optimist Club at P.O. Box 672, La Grange, TX 78945 or bring by The Fayette County Record newspaper office at 127 S. Washington St. in La Grange. Contact Jeff Wick at jeff@fayettecountyrecord.com with any questions. The contest is open to anyone 18 and under in Fayette County who has not already graduated.
Roadrunners Square Dance Club

Second Chance Emporium kindly requests that you hold your donation drop-offs until Feb. 1, so staff and volunteers can process through the recent influx of after holiday donations. Furniture donations, however, will be accepted during this time period.
