St. James BBQ

The Live Oak Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas will have their next meeting Saturday, Aug. 8 at the Fayette Public Library located at 855 S. Jefferson in La Grange. Marvelyn Granger, President of the Native Prairie Association of Texas (Fayette Chapter) will be speaking on the importance of native prairies and prairie restoration. The meeting starts at 9 a.m.

The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club (Holy Smokers) will hold a BBQ Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken is $6 and sausage link is $7, drive through only. This BBQ is for the benefit of Hospice Brazos Valley.

Cemetery Meeting

The annual Isaac Hill Cemetery Association meeting will be held Sunday, Aug. 9 at the Round Top Courthouse. Meeting begins at 2 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend.

There’s more The Swiss Alp Dance Club is having a dance on Sunday, Aug. 9, at the Schulenburg Hall located at 405 West St. in Schulenburg. The band, The Dujka Brothers, will be providing live music from 2-5:30 p.m. The public is always welcome, the doors open at 1 p.m. The hall is well air conditioned.

Bingo in Ledbetter

Bingo for seniors 60 and older plus guests will be held at the Ledbetter Community Center on Sunday, Aug. 9 from 2-4 p.m. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. $5/card covers all games with prizes awarded for each game. Chips/snacks and drinks available for freewill donation. This is a non-profit community event for entertainment. Money collected will be used for purchase of prizes and other expenses.

Lee County Live Music

Enjoy live music Aug. 10 in Giddings at 161 W. Austin at the Lee County Senior Center. Doors open at 5 p.m. and starts at 6 p.m. Music by John Dujka.

La Grange Chamber Mixer

The La GrangeArea Chamber of Commerce will host a Chamber Mixer on Tuesday, Aug. 11 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at La Marina, located at 1502 State Hwy. Business 71 in La Grange. AVIR La Grange is the door prize sponsor. Chamber members get two complimentary spots. Non-chamber members and guests are $15.

American Legion Post, Auxiliary Meeting The American Legion Post No. 102 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will meet for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in La Grange. Members are encouraged to attend to hear further plans being made by the Post and Auxiliary regarding the Veterans’ Ball, dinner and dance on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Knights of Columbus Center. The Auxiliary 19th District President, Irene Szwarc plans to attend to bring the latest updates from the recent Austin State Department Convention. New potential members are welcome. A light meal will be served, with regular business meetings to follow.

La Grange Senior Citizen Game Day

Brushstrokes of Texas & Beyond

German immigrant artists and the shaping of early Texas art. JT Koenig, resident of both Austin and La Grange, will host an engaging presentation exploring the contributions of German immigrants and their descendants to early Texas art of the 19th Century and early 20th Century, including early artists from Fayette County. Sponsored by the Fayette Heritage Museum & Archives, the program will be held on Thursday, Aug. 13 at 6:30 p.m. In the meeting room of the Fayette Public Library, 855 S Jefferson, La Grange. Please use the after-hours entrance toward the rear of the building on Franklin Street.

St. Mary’s Church Praha Picnic

St. Mary’s Church in Praha will host their picnic Saturday, Aug. 15 with Mass beginning at 10 a.m. and Praha stew and fried chicken begins at 11 a.m. Plates are $15 dine in or to go. Enjoy a country store, fish pond, cake walk, and ring toss. Bingo from 2-6 p.m. and an auction at 1 p.m. Music throughout the afternoon from 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. Hamburgers available after 4 p.m. The church is located at 821 FM 1925 in Flatonia. Back-to-School Bingo Bash

A Back-to-School Bingo Bash hosted by the La Grange FFA Booster Club will be held at the Ellinger Hall on Sunday, Aug. 16. Registration begins at 1 p.m. Games start at 2 p.m. Cost is $25 each (ages 5 plus) and includes: food and snacks, tea or water, and bingo cards. Kids four and under costs $5 and includes food and drink only. Cash raffles will be played (card), 50/50 raffle. Prizes for winners, no cash prizes.

Hay Show Entry Deadline Aug. 15 The Schulenburg Young Farmers will hold their 59th annual Hay Show on Wednesday, Sept. 2 and Thursday, Sept. 3, in conjunction with the Fayette County Fair in La Grange. Judging will take place at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Emily Fritsch Pavilion at the Fairgrounds. The hay show sale will begin at 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Emily Fritsch Pavilion. Hay produced in Fayette County in the spring and summer of 2026 can be entered in the following classes: Class 1-Coastal; Class 2-Other Bermuda grasses; Class 3-Other perennial grasses; Class 4-Mixed grasses; Class 5-Sorghums; Class 6-Winter annuals (oats and ryegrass); Class 7-Legumes and Legume grass mixture.An entry fee of $10 will pay for the cost of the testing. Hay entries can be dropped off at the following locations: M-G Farm Service Center, Weimar; Farmers Co-op, Schulenburg; La Grange Farm & Ranch; Mica Soil Service, Flatonia. LG TX Team Hunt August 22

LG TX Team Hunt is a team scavenger hunt in three locations in La Grange on Saturday, Aug. 22. You will begin at 11 a.m. at the M-K-T Rail Depot at 260 N. Washington St. You will be using the Goosechase App on your phone. Scan the QR Code that leads you directly to the Hunt. Once all questions are answered in the App for M-K-T Depot, leave the Depot and walk or drive to the Texas Heroes Museum on the other side of Courthouse Square at 171 S. Main St. Fill in answers for at the Heroes Museum, leave and drive to the Historic Faison House at 822 S. Jefferson St. Enter answers for Faison House. When finished, check in with the Hunt Monitor to hear the points leaderboard and your place in the chance to win $50 for most points, $30 for 2nd highest points, or $20 for 3rd points total. Ticket to play is only $15 per team.

Fayette County Habitat for Humanity ReStore is open for sales and donation drop-offs every Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at 825 N. Main St. in Schulenburg. The ReStore sells and accepts donations of home goods to support Habitat’s mission. Visit www.fchfh.org/ReStore.

Fayetteville’s Annual Church Feast

St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville will hold their annual picnic on Sunday, Sept. 6, at St. John’s Recreation Hall in Fayetteville. A Mass with Polka Music will be held at 10 a.m. with local musicians taking part in the Mass. There will be a barbecue beef, pork and sausage dinner served at 10:30 a.m. A dine in and a drive-thru line will be starting at 10:30 a.m. Area musicians will provide live music starting at 11 a.m. under the pavilion. Barbecue and sausage burgers will be sold beginning at 1:30 p.m. A country auction including quilts, antiques, coins, etc. will be held at 1:30 p.m. There will be bingo at 2 p.m. in an air-conditioned hall and kolaches and other pastries will be available throughout the day. Some attractions include kid’s games, silent auction, country store, cake wheel, and ice-cold refreshments. In addition, raffle tickets will be available for $10 each or 6 for $50.
