Hope for the Future of the Girl Scout Hut Materializes After Newspaper Story

Following the story about the upcoming closure of the historical Girl Scout Hut last week, an outpour of support from the community has helped make progress in the attempt to save the property.

“One of the most exciting developments is that William Hermes’ (the original deed owner of the property) granddaughter contacted me,” said Michelle Messer, one of the local troop leaders who is spearheading the movement to keep the hut. “She had already been working with her attorney and uncovered some crucial information for us— another trustee. A former troop leader also reached out. She’s a wills and trusts attorney, and her daughter is about ten years older than mine. Through her, we’ve also been connected with a real estate attorney who’s generously agreed to help us pro bono.”

Messer said that she greatly appreciates the enthusiasm and support of the community, and she urges everyone to read last week’s article on the matter thoroughly and ensure information being shared is accurate.

“We want to make sure the information being shared is accurate, so well- intentioned people don’t unintentionally complicate the situation,” Messer said. “The community’s support has been incredible, and with everyone’s help we can keep the conversation positive, factual, and moving in the right direction.”
