BBQ & Bake Sale
The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club will hold a barbecue and the Episcopal Women will hold a bake sale Saturday, Jan. 8, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken will be $4 and sausage link $6, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of Serenity Star. The drive-through will open at 10:30 a.m. with no drive through pre-orders prior to 10:30. Please avoid congestion on Travis St. (Hwy. 71) by coming in off Colorado St.
Heroes Museum
The Texas Heroes Museum will be closed for New Years on Saturday, Jan. 1 and will resume the current COVID schedule of every Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 8.
Feed The Need
Feed the Need, a non-profit organization whose mission is to feed people physically and spiritually, will provide free burgers every Monday at 6:30 p.m. in La Grange at 901 Mode Ln. Everyone is welcome.
Retired Teachers’ Meeting
The Fayette County Retired Teachers’ Association will meet on Monday, Jan. 10 in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church at 1215 Von Minden Rd. in La Grange. The social time will start at 1:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 2 p.m. Guest speaker will be Linda Morrison from Second Chance Emporium. Members are asked to bring treats and snacks for teacher appreciation baskets. Snacks can include fun-size candy, breakfast nutrition bars, salty items, wrapped homemade items. The baskets will be filled at the end of the meeting, and will be delivered to Fayette County public schools. The members who delivered the baskets in 2021, are reminded to remember to bring them to the meeting. Members are also reminded to bring their totals for 2021 volunteer hours. All retired public school employees are welcome to attend these meetings, even if retired from another city, county, or state. American Legion/Auxiliary Meeting
The American Legion Post No. 102 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will meet for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive in La Grange. Member attendance is encouraged and new potential members are welcome to attend. The Auxiliary will give a report on their annual Christmas Veterans’ donations and visits. A light meal will be served following the meeting.
High School Softball Umpire Meeting
The Tri-County Softball Umpire Association will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hallettsville ISD Boardroom. Anyone interested in umpiring is encouraged to attend. Sages and Saints
The Sages and Saints group at the First United Methodist Church invite those mature adults age 50 and older to join on Jan. 13 for “Movie Night” at the Fellowship hall. “The Chosen” chapters 1 and 2 will be shown with hotdogs, popcorn and soft drinks beginning at 5 p.m. You may bring a comfortable lawn chair or chairs will be available.
Fayette County Democratic Party
The Fayette County Democratic Party monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. The guest speaker will be Mike Collier, candidate for Texas Lt. Governor. LG Roadrunners Square Dance Club
Square dance lessons will begin on Jan. 11 and also on Jan. 18 with a fun night to introduce you to square dancing. Basic lessons are set to begin on Jan. 25. Square dancing offers exercise for the body and also for the brain. The La Grange Roadrunners Square Dance Club meets on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Randolph Recreation Center on Pearl Street in La Grange.
