Feed the Need

Feed the Need, a non-profit organization whose mission is to feed people physically and spiritually, will provide free burgers every Monday at 6:30 p.m. at 901 Mode Ln. in La Grange. Everyone is welcome.

Support Group

A support and education group for a parent or grandparent who is grieving the loss of a child at any age or any stage of the grieving process will be held the fourth Tuesday of each month from 10 until 11:30 a.m. at Hospice Brazos Valley located at 1048 N. Jefferson in La Grange. For more information contact, Cindy Fanning at (979) 968-6913. You must RSVP to keep groups small.

Chili Cook-Off

Applications for cook-off teams are available beginning on Dec. 6 at 1:30 p.m. or online www.ilovetoread.org and at the library front desk for the annual Round Top Family Library Chili Cook-Off. The cook-off is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Stone Cellar.

BBQ & Bake Sale

St. James Episcopal Men’s Club will hold a barbecue and the Episcopal Women will hold a bake sale on Saturday, Dec. 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St., across from H-E-B. A half chicken will be $4 and sausage link is $6. The meal is drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter. Please note: We will open at 10:30 a.m. with no drive through pre-orders prior to 10:30. Please avoid congestion on Travis St. (Hwy. 71) by coming in off Colorado St.

Widowed Spouses Support Group

Hospice Brazos Valley will host a Grief Support Group on the third Tuesday of each month from 10 to 1l:30 a.m. for anyone who is grieving the loss of a spouse. Second Saturday on the Square

The Second Saturday on the Square is this Saturday, Dec. 11 from 3 p.m. until dark. Enjoy kick ball, cotton candy, music and a movie, order food from local restaurants and food trucks. Vendors welcome.

Santa at the Depot

The Union Pacific Railroad will be delivering a special rider to the La Grange Depot on Saturday, Dec. 11. Santa Claus will be coming to town to greet children and hear their Christmas wishes. Exact arrival time of the special train isn’t certain, but it probably will be about 10 a.m. Cookies, refreshments and activities will be provided while waiting for Santa at the free event at the depot, 260 N. Washington St., just across from the Prosperity Bank drive-in.

Hermann Sons Life-Shelby

Hermann Sons Life of Shelby will meet for their Christmas party on Sunday, Dec. 12 at 4:30 p.m. at Harmonie Hall in Shelby. The lodge will furnish ham for the meal and members are asked to bring a side dish or a dessert.

Schulenburg PTO to Host Movie Night

Schulenburg PTO is excited to invite area families to join them for a free family movie night on Sunday, Dec. 12. The festive gathering will be held at the Schulenburg ISD cafetorium. Doors will open at 4 p.m. Santa will be available for a visit and a photo opportunity starting at 4 p.m. Families may receive a 5x7 photo for a $5 fee. “The Polar Express” movie will begin at 5 p.m. Free refreshments will be served. RT Hermann Sons Life Lodge

The Round Top Hermann Sons Life Lodge No. 151 will meet for their annual Christmas party on Sunday, Dec. 12 at the Quade-Werchan American Legion Post at Round Top beginning at 11 a.m. with a social time. There will be a short meeting at noon during which members will be recognized for celebrating 50, 60 and 70 years of membership. The lodge will provide lunch and it will be served at 12:30 p.m. Members are asked to bring a dessert to share. Celebrate the season with a fun gift exchange of “Rob Your Neighbor” after lunch. FWS Board Meeting

Fayette Water Supply Corporation will be conducting a meeting of the board of directors on Monday, Dec. 13 at 5:15 p.m. at the FWSC office located at 200 Bordovsky Rd. in La Grange. All members are encouraged to attend.

FCRP Accepting Candidate Applications

The Fayette County Republican Party will accept candidate ballot applications on Monday, Dec. 13. Fayette County Republican Party chairman, Deborah Frank, will be available at the Fayette County Courthouse by appointment only to accept ballot applications and filing fees from candidates who want their name to appear on the Republican party primary ballot. Applications must be complete, correct, and notarized when submitting them. The filing period for all candidates ends on Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. Candidates must contact chairman Frank at (979) 270-1555 to prearrange to meet with her. Payment of filing fees must be with a certified or cashier check. Candidates may direct any questions to FCRP chairman Deborah Frank at (979) 270-1555.

LG Chamber of Commerce Luncheon

The La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce fourth quarter luncheon is scheduled for Dec. 14 at 12 noon at the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center. Chamber members are $10 and non-members are $25. Lunch is provided. Guests will be Aaron Cox with the Texas Association of Business, David Gilbreath, City of La Grange Chief of Police, and Craig Moreau, Fayette County Chief of Emergency Management.
