Blood Drive
There will be a Community Blood Drive on the Square in Fayetteville near the old Fire Station on Saturday, July 25 from 8 a.m. - 12 noon. Your help is greatly needed for this to be a success. FCCT Auditions
Fayette County Community Theatre will host auditions Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26 for the September production of Now and Then by Sean Grennan. Auditions will be held each day from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Fayette County Community Theatre box office located at 120 South Washington in La Grange. Historic Photographic Exhibit
The Round Top Area Historical Society invites you to a free photographic event of historic photos from 1865-1920 for the next two Saturdays ( July 25, Aug. 1) from 1-4 p.m. Enjoy a glimpse of the Round Top and surrounding areas of life a 150 years ago. Take a break from the heat and visit the RTAHS campus at 397 E. Mill St. (behind the Round Top Post Office). The 250th Celebration cloisonne Christmas collection ornaments will be for sale to enhance your Christmas tree or collection. They are $60 and can be paid for online or at the campus. Guest Speaker at Library
Henry Mayo, historian and professional surveyor, will present a program, “The First Survey of Austin’s Colony,” on Thursday, July 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Fayette Public Library, 855 S. Jefferson in La Grange. Among other things, Mayo will explain how the Sylvanus Castleman Half League, located above La Grange on the west bank of the Colorado River, became the first land grant surveyed in Austin’s Colony. Please use the after hours entrance toward the back of the building on Franklin St.
Edith Stein Performance in Fayetteville
Fayette County Community Theatre presents Edith Stein by Arthur Giron July 31 through Aug. 2 in Fayetteville. This haunting and passionate drama tells the story of Edith Stein, a Jewish intellectual who converted to Roman Catholicism, joined a Carmelite nunnery and was martyred at Auschwitz. Subsequently beatified by Pope John Paul II. The Friday and Saturday performances will feature dinner and the play events catered by Garrett Cooks. Dinner served at 6 p.m. with performance to follow beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday will be a regular matinee performance. All performances at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Hall at 205 E. Howlelujah Tour Aug. 1 Round Top The Howlelujah tour launch event is Saturday, Aug. 1 at 6:15 p.m. at the Saint Cecilia’s Chapel in Henkel Square in Round Top. It is free and open to the public. Simmons, Lemons, Adams Reunion The Simmons, Lemons, and Adams Annual Family Reunion will be held Saturday, Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. at Blase’s Hall, (361) 772-4329, in Hallettsville. Blase’s is located nine miles east of Shiner and approximately 3 1/2 miles west of Hallettsville. Any descendants of the Simmons, Lemons or Adams that reside in Lavaca, Victoria, Harris, Travis, Bexar, Fayette, Dallas, Wharton, Caldwell, and other surrounding Texas counties are encouraged to attend. Please bring a dessert, a raffle gift (extras for our prize walk), vegetables, yourself, and others. The contest is “It’s Shoe Time!” Members will be judged, and four winners will receive monetary gifts. Scholarship winners are announced during the family reunion. Mulholland Family Benefit Raffle
Grant Mulholland of Flatonia contracted a severe pathogen resulting in the loss of his hands and feet. He is now on his way to recovery and learning how to use prosthesis to help replace the lost parts. A family benefit raffle drawing will be held Saturday, Aug. 22 at the Flatonia American Legion Hall, 1226 US 90, at 4 p.m. Tickets are $20 and this raffle has over $9,000 cash value with over $3,400 of that in cash.
