St. James BBQ
St. James Episcopal Men’s Club will hold a barbecue Saturday, Aug. 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken will be $4 and sausage link $6, drive through only.
Second Saturday
Second Saturday on the Square in La Grange will be held Saturday, Aug. 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. Come enjoy Gaga Ball, kick ball, cotton candy, and music. Order food from local restaurants and food trucks. Vendors are always welcome.
VFD Barbecue
The 41st South Lee County Volunteer Fire Department annual barbecue will be held Saturday, Aug. 14 at the Serbin picnic grounds on FM 2239. Washer tournament begins at 2:30 p.m. and silent auction at 3 p.m. Enjoy barrel train rides for the kids, a live auction begins at 6:30 p.m. and the Blue Sunset Band at 3:30 p.m. Beef and pork to go at the pit begins at 4:30 p.m. Barbecue plates will be served with all the trimmings from 5 until 7:30 p.m. Plates are $12 per adult and children $6 for children 12 and under.
School Supplies And Snacks
Members of the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church will be giving away school supplies (while they last) at the Fayette Public Library, 855 S. Jefferson on Saturday, Aug. 14 from 12 noon until 1 p.m.
Bake Sale And Car Wash
The La Grange Juneteenth Committee will be having a Bake Sale & Car Wash on Saturday, Aug. 14 starting at 7 a.m. in the Fayette Medical Supply, 362 East Travis St. parking lot. Hope to see you there.
Texas Women’s League
The Texas Women’s League grant applications will be available online beginning Aug. 1 and must be completed by midnight on Sept. 15. Applications will only be accepted via the website, www. texaswomensleague.org. This will include documentation and a 30 second video.
Praha Picnic
Praha Picnic will be held Sunday, Aug. 15 with Holy Mass at 10 a.m. Dinner begins at 11 a.m. featuring Praha stew and fried chicken dinner. Dine in plates and plates to go are $12. Enjoy a cake walk, country store, ring toss and even ice cream. Bingo is from 1-5 p.m. and 6-10 p.m. The auction begins at 1 p.m. Music will be by Fritz Hodde and the Fabulous Six, Texas Sound Check Band, The Moravians, and Texas Dream Band. Fayette Water Supply Corporation will be conducting a meeting of the Board of Directors on Monday, Aug. 16 at 5:15 p.m. at the FWSC office located at 200 Bordovsky Road in La Grange. All members are encouraged to attend.
Meet The Athletes
La Grange All Sports Booster Club will sponsor their annual Meet the Athlete event on Monday, Aug. 16. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria with a hamburger/hot dog meal. Introduction of fall sport athletes will begin at 7 p.m. in the LHS gymnasium.
LHS & Middle School Open House
La Grange High School and La Grange Middle School will host an Open House for students Monday, Aug. 16. Open House will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 6:30 p.m. The purpose of the orientation is to help students and parents become acquainted with the operations of the high school and middle school campus.

The Ellinger Hermann Sons Life Lodge will meet on Monday, Aug. 16 at the Ellinger Fire Station at 6 p.m.
LG Juneteenth Committee Meeting
The La Grange Juneteenth Committee will have their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Randolph Recreation Center, West Wing, 653 E. Pearl St. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Swiss Alp/Ammannsville/Dubina FB
The Swiss Alp/Ammannsville/Dubina Farm Bureau monthly meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 17 at the Swiss Alp Hall on Hwy. 77, between La Grange and Schulenburg. The social begins at 6:30 p.m. with a pot-luck dinner at 7 p.m. Special guest will be Mr. Drew Brossmann, Precinct 4 Fayette County Commissioner, who will bring us up to date on county plans and progress. Members from Ammannsville and Dubina as well as Swiss Alp, are encouraged to attend, to meet our commissioner and visit with your neighbors after a year of quarantine. Members are asked to bring a dessert or food dish. Guests are always welcome.

VFW Auxiliary No. 5254 will conduct its August meeting at the Post Home on Tuesday, Aug. 17 at 5 p.m. All current members and prospective members are strongly encouraged to attend. The Colorado Valley Independent Cattlemen’s Assoc. (CVICA) fundraiser is being held on Wednesday, Aug. 18 at the La Grange KC Hall located at 190 S. Brown Street. The meal consists of barbecue chicken with buttered noodles, pinto beans and coleslaw. Drive thru plates will be served from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. Plates are $10. Ellinger St. Mary Church Bazaar
St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellinger will host their 71st Annual Bazaar on Sunday, Aug. 22. Starting at 10:30 a.m. there will be a drive thru only meal at the Ellinger Chamber of Commerce Hall consisting of fried chicken, sausage and trimmings for $12 per plate. A Prize Drawing for a $5,000 gift card first prize, a $1,000 gift card second prize, ten $500 gift card prizes, and 19 additional prizes will be held in the afternoon. Attention Ranchers/Brand Owners
Expiration for marks and brands in accordance with Article 144.044 of the Agriculture Code, all marks and brands previously recorded with the Fayette County Clerk’s Office will expire on Aug. 30. Owners of the marks and brands will have from Aug. 31 until Feb. 28, 2022 (6 months) to renew them. On March 1, 2022, all marks and brands that are not renewed will be available to the public. Museum Staffers Needed
The Texas Heroes Museum, located one block off the square in La Grange, draws a significant number of visitors each weekend when it is open. Until 2020 the museum was open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon. The museum has had over 6,000 visitors from 48 states and 28 foreign countries since opening in September 2016. The museum is open again since May 29, although only on Saturdays because there is not enough volunteer staff (docents) for threeday weekends. The museum has many interesting exhibits, primarily celebrating the many Texans who have over the years made this country and our state what it is today. Visit the museum almost any Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Main Street, one block south of Travis Street. Please also give serious consideration to volunteering to staff the museum for two short shifts each month. You will meet interesting civic-minded people and learn more about the history of our great state. No experience necessary. Parkinson’s Support Group
For anyone struggling with the Parkinson’s disease movement disorder, the group has reactivated in La Grange the third Thursday of every month for patients and caregivers. Vietnam Veterans Meeting
Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 will meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Ammannsville KJT Hall located in Ammannsville. Food and refreshments will be available after the meeting. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend.
Community Book Study
A Community Book Study group will meet every other Thursday beginning Sept. 9 at Crosspoint Community Church located at 1010 N. Von Minden in La Grange at 6:30 p.m. The book the group is reading is How to Fight Racism by Jemar Tisby. Everyone should buy their own book either online or at a bookstore. Fayetteville Schools Reunion
The annual Fayetteville High School and St. John’s School Reunion will be held on Sept. 18 at the Heh Remember When? Dancehall at 3031 FM 1291 in Fayetteville beginning at 3 p.m. with a social, meeting, dinner and music by DJ Aaron from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Barbecue sandwiches will be served and all graduates are asked to bring a dessert or appetizer. The bar will be open to purchase drinks. The class of 1970 and 1971 will be hosting this years reunion. All former graduates and teachers are invited to attend.
