SHOCK Fundraiser
S.H.O.C.K. (Sacred Heart Organization of Catholic Kids) will be having a car wash for the new outdoor benches at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The car wash will be held at the Sacred Heart Parish Center on Saturday, July 31 from 9 a.m. until approximately noon. It is free will donation. Come and drop off your car or come and wait. Chairs and cold water in the shade will be available for those waiting for their vehicle.
TWL Grants
The Texas Women’s League grant applications will be available online beginning Aug. 1 and must be completed by midnight on Sept. 15. Applications will only be accepted via the website, www.texaswomensleague.org. This will include documentation and a 30 second video.
Cowboy Church
The Colorado River Cowboy Church will host award-winning western recording artist and minister, Jeff Gore, on Sunday, Aug. 1. He will conduct the church service at 10 a.m. and return for a concert at 6 p.m. Singer, novelist, filmmaker, Jeff Gore has been performing since he was four years old. He has spent the last 30 years traveling and singing cowboy and gospel music all over the U.S. He received the Male Vocalist of the Year award in Cowboy Music from the Academy of Western Artists (1997) and a lifetime achievement award for Western Music by the American Cowboy Culture Association (2005). All are invited to hear him share his gospel message as it applies to everyone.
School Supply Drive
The KJT Society No. 46, La Grange, is holding a school supply drop-off drive for Sacred Heart Catholic School. The drop off drive will begin on Monday, Aug. 2 until Friday, Aug. 6. Suggested items include: fiskar scissors, sharpie markers, dry erase markers, masking tape, highlighters, pencil top erasers, 3x5 index cards, card stock paper and folders with pockets and brads. These items can be donated at: the KJT Home Office, Fayette Savings Bank in La Grange and Round Top State Bank in La Grange. Once donated, the items will be delivered to the school to be used throughout the year when a student is in need. This drop-off drive is made possible by the KJT Society No. 46 members, KJT’s project H program and is being sponsored by the KJT Home Office.

After School Program
The City of La Grange Recreation Department will begin Registration for the 2021-2022 After School Program Wednesday, Aug. 4, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Randolph Recreation Center located at 653 East Pearl St. Fees will be a $10 registration fee per child, $25 per week/per child, or can do drop-ins with a maximum of three days per week for $7 per day, per child. This program is offered for children entering Kindergarten through 6th grade for this school year. Packets will be available for pick-up on Monday, Aug. 2 at the Recreation Center. American Legion Quade-Werchan
The next monthly meeting for American Legion Quade-Werchan Post No. 338 is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 5. This will be a regular meeting of the post and auxiliary beginning at 7:30 p.m. Members are encouraged to attend.
Hermann Sons Life Fish Fry
Hermann Sons Life Rutersville will have a fish fry for members Saturday, Aug. 7 at 5 p.m. The meal will be a free will donation and members may bring a dessert or snacks.
Movie & Brunch at Casino Hall
A special showing of West Side Story will be held on Saturday, Aug. 7. The Casino Arts Association will be hosting a brunch along with table seating for the viewing of the movie. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. with mimosas, tea, and water. Brunch will consist of a breakfast casserole, green salad with strawberries, and cheese grits. St. Michael Harvest Feast
The St. Michael Catholic Church Harvest Feast will be held Sunday, Aug. 8 at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Weimar. Polka Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. A fried chicken and stew dinner begins at 11 a.m. and plates are $10. Drive thru plates are also available at St. Michael’s Family Center. Enjoy a country store, cake walk and treasure chest. Lots of kids games and auction begins at 1 p.m. Music by Shiner Hobo Band, Lost Cause Band and The Broken Spokes. Fireworks at dusk.
Mares-Mica Family Reunion
The 56th Josef and Anna Mares-Mica family reunion will be held Aug. 8 at the Flatonia Civic Center beginning at 10 a.m. Please bring your favorite main dish, side dish and one dessert. Tea and coffee will be provided. Please bring an item for the silent auction. A photo will be taken following the noon meal.
Hunter Education Course
An in person hunter education class will be held Sunday, Aug. 8 beginning at noon until 5 p.m. at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office in La Grange. Pre-register online or by emailing the instructor. When you register for the class, please register the student’s information who will be taking the class. Pay the class fee of $15 for each person taking the class to the instructor on the day of the class. Bring snacks and drinks. Isaac Hill Cemetery Association
The annual meeting of the Isaac Hill Cemetery Association will be held on Aug. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Round Top Courthouse. Due to COVID the meeting was not held last year. There will be many items to discuss. Plan on attending if you own a plot, have family buried there, or are a concerned friend. For questions, contact President Gary Pior.
Jungle Book at Historic Casino Hall
The Jungle Book, a classic jungle adventure based on the story by Rudyard Kipling, will be presented by the Fayette County Community Theatre. The show will run Aug. 13-15. Friday, Aug. 13 is the VIP event and begins at 5:30 p.m. with the show starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, show starts at 7 p.m. Sunday, show starts at 3 p.m. There are nearly 50 students in the show, ranging in age from three years to early 20’s. The show is entirely designed and produced by local Fayette county students. Tickets are available online at faycotheatre.com.
Attention Ranchers/Brand Owners
Expiration for marks and brands in accordance with Article 144.044 of the Agriculture Code, all marks and brands previously recorded with the Fayette County Clerk’s office will expire on Aug. 30. Owners of the marks and brands will have from Aug. 31 until Feb. 28, 2022 (6 months) to renew them. On March 1, 2022, all marks and brands that are not renewed will be available to the public. Feed The Need
Feed the Need, a non-profit organization based in Bastrop whose mission is to feed people physically and spiritually, will provide free burgers every Monday at 6:30 p.m. in La Grange at 901 Mode Lane. This location is near White Rock Park. Everyone is welcome.
Widowed Spouses Support Group
Hospice Brazos Valley will host a Grief Support Group on the third Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1l:30 a.m. for anyone who is grieving the loss of a spouse. Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support
