Summer Lunch
La Grange ISD will serve good nutritious meals during the summer for local children 18 years and under. Summer curbside breakfast and lunch meals may be picked up on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. beginning June 8 and ending July 30 at the bus drop off on 192 S. Vail St.
Special Speaker
The Sages & Saints Ministry at La Grange First United Methodist Church, 1215 N. Von Minden, is hosting guest speaker Charles Hebert author of the book, “On the Run,” at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall on Friday, June 11. Admission is free and open to the public. Mr. Hebert also authored, “The Kreisches of Fayette County.” He is an entertaining speaker with much history on Fayette County and Texas events.
Juneteenth
Juneteenth will be celebrated on the square Saturday, June 12 beginning at noon until 6 p.m. All churches are invited to participate. There will be speakers and singers. Music by various jazz artists including the Michael Malone Quartet, Kya Monee, D.J. Black Smoke, and Debra Steward.
Kolache-Klobase Festival
The 30th Annual Czech Kolache-Klobase Festival will be held Saturday, June 12 at the Riverside Hall in East Bernard. Admission is $8 and children 12 and under are free. Enjoy arts and crafts, cake walk and music. Sausage/barbecue chicken plate lunch will be available beginning at 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Sausage sandwiches and hamburgers available in the afternoon.
St. James BBQ
The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club will hold a barbecue Saturday, June 12 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken will be $3.50 and sausage link is $5. The meal is drive-thru only. This barbecue is for the benefit of the Children’s Advocacy Center.
Second Saturday on the Square
The Second Saturday on the Square is Saturday, June 12 from 5 to 8 p.m. Enjoy Gaga Ball, youth activities and food. Order food from local restaurants and food trucks and enjoy DJ music. Shop local businesses and vendors. Come support local businesses, ideas, meet new neighbors and check out things happening around the square in downtown La Grange. Florida Chapel Cemetery Assoc. Meeting
The Florida Chapel Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting on Sunday, June 13 at 2 p.m. at the Muesse Chapel. Election of officers will take place. The meeting is open to the public. Hermann Sons Life Shelby
The Shelby Hermann Sons Life will meet for their quarterly meeting on Sunday, June 13 at 5 p.m. at Harmonie Hall in Shelby. The lodge will furnish ice cream and members are asked to bring their favorite snack to share.
Bible Study Group
A life support group/Bible study will meet every Wednesday at 6 p.m. at St. James Church located at 1110 St. James Church Rd. in Plum. Everyone is welcome.
Farmers Market On The Square
The Farmers Market on the Square is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in La Grange. Vendors set up first come, first serve on the courthouse lawn and sell homemade items along with locally grown produce. Plum Hemann Sons Life Meeting
Plum Hermann Sons Life will meet for their monthly meeting on Monday, June 14 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Prairie Valley Schoolhouse in West Point. The Lodge will provide the meal and dessert.
Swiss Alp Farm Bureau Family Night
The Swiss Alp Farm Bureau/Ammannsville/Dubina family night will be Tuesday, June 15 at the Swiss Alp Farm Bureau building between La Grange and Schulenburg. The meal will be catered by Koopman’s, and will be fried chicken, fixings, salad, cobbler and tea. The cost will be $5 per person; members needed to call (979) 247-4151 to reserve meals for members and guests by Tuesday, June 8. Special guests will be the two scholarship winners and their families, and special speaker is Fayette County Judge Joe Weber. Call and reserve your meals, and come and greet your neighbors and brag about your rains.
Notice of (DMV) Office Closure
The Fayette County Tax Assessor Collectors Office (DMV) will be closed on Tuesday, June 15, from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. to attend a Texas Department of Motor Vehicle training and will resume normal business hours on Wednesday, June 16.
VFW Post 5254 Meeting
The VFW Post 5254 in La Grange will have a meeting Tuesday, June 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the post home. There will be a meal.
Flatonia Farm Bureau Quarterly Meeting
Flatonia Farm Bureau invites you to attend their meeting at the Flatonia Civic Center (CCA section) on Tuesday, June 15 at 7 p.m. Due to COVID, a dinner will not be served at this meeting. The election of officers will be held on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. at the same location.
Vietnam Veterans Meeting
Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 will meet on Wednesday, June 16 at 7 p.m. at the Ammansville KJT Hall located in Ammansville. Food and refreshments will be available after the meeting. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend.
FCRW Monthly Meeting
The Fayette County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, June 17 at JW’s Steakhouse located at 122 S. Hauptstrasse St. in Carmine. Social time starts at 6 p.m. with the business meeting at 6:30 p.m. The featured speaker will be retired Army Colonel Phil Waldron of Allied Cybersecurity & Analysis, a cyber and political warfare specialist who has researched election results of 3rd world countries over the last 30 years, sharing his work in cybersecurity and election integrity. Vacation Bible School

Theatre Workshop Historic Casino Hall
Calling all Fayette County middle and high school students for a week-long theatre workshop directed by Melissa Weltner, from June 21-25, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at the Historic Casino Hall. Lessons will be taught by professional artists, teachers, college students, and TXST professors. Space is limited. $130 per student (scholarships available, email for more information). Workshop includes: Acting Foundations, Voice and Diction, Light and Sound, Costumes and Make-Up, and a Showcase Performance on June 25.
