Legion & Auxiliary
The American Legion Post 102 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 102 will meet on Wednesday, June 9 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive in La Grange. The Post will be voting for approval of its revised Constitution and By-Laws at this meeting. The Post as well as the Unit will have their installation of officers for the 2021-2022 year. Member attendance is especially urged. A catered meal will be served.
KC Fundraiser
The La Grange Knights of Columbus will hold it’s 9th annual KC Scholarship Fundraiser of a fried pork chop meal including black-eyed peas, buttered potates and cabbage for $12 per plate on Wednesday, June 9 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the KC Community Center located at 190 S. Brown St. in La Grange. Tickets are available by calling (979) 968-5117. Limited tickets will be available on the day of the fundraiser.
Democratic Party Meeting
The Fayette County Democratic Party monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, June 10 at 6 p.m. The guest speaker will be Gale Schielack, manager of Second Chance Emporium. Ministry Hosts Special Speaker
The Sages & Saints Ministry at La Grange First United Methodist Church, 1215 N. Von Minden, is hosting guest speaker Charles Hebert author of the book, “On the Run,” at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall on Friday, June 11. Admission is free and open to the public. Mr. Hebert also authored, “The Kreisches of Fayette County.” He is an entertaining speaker with much history on Fayette County and Texas events.
Juneteenth on the Square
Juneteenth will be celebrated on the square Saturday, June 12 beginning at noon until 6 p.m. All churches are invited to participate. There will be speakers and singers. Music by various jazz artists including the Michael Malone Quartet, Kya Monee, D.J. Black Smoke, and Debra Steward.
Kolache-Klobase Festival
The 30th Annual Czech Kolache-Klobase Festival will be held Saturday, June 12 at the Riverside Hall in East Bernard. Admission is $8 and children 12 and under are free. Enjoy arts and crafts, cake walk and music. Sausage/barbecue chicken plate lunch will be available beginning at 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Sausage sandwiches and hamburgers available in the afternoon.
St. James BBQ
The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club will hold a barbecue Saturday, June 12 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken will be $3.50 and sausage link is $5. The meal is drive-thru only. This barbecue is for the benefit of the Children’s Advocacy Center.
Florida Chapel Cemetery Assoc. Meeting
The Florida Chapel Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting on Sunday, June 13 at 2 p.m. at the Muesse Chapel. Election of officers will take place. The meeting is open to the public. Plum Hermann Sons Life Meeting
Plum Hermann Sons Life will meet for their monthly meeting on Monday, June 14 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Prairie Valley Schoolhouse in West Point. The Lodge will provide the meal and dessert.
Flatonia Farm Bureau Quarterly Meeting
Flatonia Farm Bureau invites you to attend their meeting at the Flatonia Civic Center (CCA section) on Tuesday, June 15 at 7 p.m. Due to COVID, a dinner will not be served at this meeting. The election of officers will be held on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. at the same location.
Notice of (DMV) Office Closure
The Fayette County Tax Assessor Collectors Office (DMV) will be closed on Tuesday, June 15, from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. to attend a Texas Department of Motor Vehicle training and will resume normal business hours on Wednesday, June 16.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School at Queen of the Holy Rosary in Hostyn with the theme “Rocky Railway: Jesus Power Pulls Us Through” is June 28 through July 2. Register online at https://hostynplumcatholic.org/vacation-bible-school. Any youth from Pre-K to 5th grade can register. Registration ends June 14.
Theatre Workshop Historic Casino Hall
Calling all Fayette County middle and high school students for a week-long theatre workshop directed by Melissa Weltner, with lessons taught by professional artists, teachers, college students, and TXST professors June 21-25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at the Historic Casino Hall. Space is limited. $130 per student (scholarships available, email for more information). Workshop includes: Acting Foundations, Voice and Diction, Light and Sound, Costumes and Make-Up, and a Showcase Performance on June 25. Wednesday Summer Reading Show
Join the Fayette Public Library on Wednesday, June 9 at 10:15 a.m. for a spectacular magic show from crowd favorite, John O’Bryant. This fun unique show will feature magic, comedy and tons of fun. Thursday Story Hour at the Library
How much do you know about miniature goats? On Thursday, June 10, at 10:15 a.m. Ms. Karla will be at the Fayette Public Library with her miniature goats to educate us about what it takes to run a mini goat ranch. Enjoy great stories and a fun art craft afterward. Summer story hour takes place outside of the library and is free and open to the public.
