St. James BBQ

The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club will hold a barbecue Saturday, April 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St across from H-E-B. A half chicken will be $3.50 and sausage links $5. This event is drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of the Parents as Teachers association. The Holy Smokers will be observing Covid protocols.

Second Saturday

Second Saturday on the Square is April 10. Enjoy a Gaga Ball Tournament with prizes. Order food from local restaurants and food trucks and enjoy DJ music. Shop local businesses and local vendors. Handmade product vendors are welcome. Come see new businesses, meet new neighbors, and check out things happening around the Fayette County square.

Shelby Cemetery

The Shelby Cemetery, located at 5019 Voelkel Lane, will have Decoration Day on Sunday, April 11 at 2 p.m. at the cemetery.

Hermann Sons

Hermann Sons Life Plum Lodge No. 238 will meet for their monthly meeting Monday, April 12 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Prairie Valley Schoolhouse in West Point. The lodge will provide the meal and dessert.

American Legion Post, Auxililary Meeting

The American Legion Post 102 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 102 will meet on Wednesday, April 14 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive in La Grange. Members are encouraged to attend to discuss some necessary business matters. No meal will be served. Face masks and social distancing required.

Candidate Forum In Ellinger

The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce (ECC) is sponsoring a candidate forum for all City of Ellinger candidates on Thursday, April 15 at 7 p.m. in the ECC dining hall. Everyone is invited to come and hear the candidates that are seeking election discuss various issues.

American Legion Quade-Werchan

Due to the extended dates of the recently completed Spring 2021 Antiques Show, the monthly meeting for American Legion Quade-Werchan Post No. 338 scheduled for Thursday, April 15 will only be for the Executive Committee. The next general meeting for all Post members and the Ladies Auxiliary is planned for May 6 beginning at 7:30 p.m. To honor the establishment of Post No. 338 in 1921, a catered meal will be provided to the members and those of the Ladies Auxiliary prior to the May meeting. The meal service will begin at 6:45 p.m.

Pagel Cemetery Decoration Day

Fried Chicken Fundraiser

The Industry Knights of Columbus is holding their annual drive thru fundraiser on Sunday, April 18 at Industry Firemen’s Hall. The meal consists of fried chicken, homemade buttered noodles, and green beans for $12 a person. The drive-thru begins at 11 a.m. with a prize drawing at 1 p.m.

Krebs Cemetery Meeting

An annual Krebs Family Cemetery meeting will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 18 at the Krebs Family Cemetery. All interested parties are invited to attend.

German Dance Halls

The next Zoom Winedale talk will be about German dance halls on Tuesday, April 20 at noon with Casey Jordan, executive director of Texas Dance Hall Preservation, Inc. “Two Step Your Way Through Time and Discover Texas history in our Historic Dance Halls” as Texas dance halls are as diverse as Texas itself, and can be found throughout the state. The story of Texas is embedded in the floors, walls, music, and people found in these unique and iconic buildings. Texas once had 1,000 dance halls; today only 400 remain, almost half of which were built by German immigrants. RT-Carmine Kindergarten Round-Up

Round Top-Carmine Elementary will have a modified Kindergarten Roundup on April 21 at the elementary school from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. Children who plan to attend Kindergarten at Round Top-Carmine Elementary for the 2021-2022 school year are invited to attend. Parents are asked to bring their completed enrollment packet, along with all required documents at this time. Enrollment packets are available to download on the rtcisd.net website under the Parent/ Student Resources tab at https://www.rtcisd.net/domain/171. There is also a check off list for the documents needed for enrollment. Families will be required to stay in their cars, and wear face coverings. The Kindergarten teacher will visit with you in your car. Please be patient. Packets will be checked by school staff while parents and their student(s) meet with the Kindergarten teacher. Tours of the campus will not be available during the Roundup. Children who will be five years of age on or before Sept. 1 are eligible for enrollment in the Kindergarten class for the 2021-2022 school year.

Mental Health First Aid Class

The Colorado County Behavioral Health Task Force is offering a Mental Health First Aid Class in conjunction with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service on April 22. It will be hosted by the Columbus Community Hospital and held at the Columbus Medical Clinic’s classroom on the 2nd floor beginning at 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. To register call (979) 732-2530 by April 16. The class is limited to 20 individuals.

Wildlife Management Association

West Navidad Wildlife Management Association will have a general meeting on Saturday, April 24 at Rockin “W” sale barn on Highway 77. The blue barn is approximately 2.5 miles north of Schulenburg on the west side of Highway 77. The social starts at 6 p.m. followed by a meal, auction, and raffle. Barbecue Chicken & Bake Sale

Sacred Heart Catholic School is having a drive-thru barbecue chicken and bake sale at the La Grange KC Hall, 190 S. Brown St., on Wednesday, April 28 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The meal will consist of a 1/2 barbecue chicken, German potatoes, cole slaw and green beans for $10. Contact any school family, Sacred Heart School office or the La Grange Knights of Columbus at (979) 968-5117 to reserve your plate. Sacred Heart will also be selling drawing tickets with prizes to be drawn on Facebook Live at noon on Friday, April 30.

Bluebonnet Lions Casserole Fundraiser

The La Grange Bluebonnet Lions Club will be selling their chicken spaghetti and Mexican taco casseroles on Saturday, May 1. The casseroles are $10 each and will be available for pick up at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall located at 1215 N. Von Minden at 10:30 a.m. Pre-orders are being accepted by calling or texting Lion members Carolyn Buchanek at (979) 966-9185 or Donna Pyle at (979) 966-3485 or from any of the other Bluebonnet Lions members. All Covid-19 guidelines will be followed with safe distancing and pick up will be drive up outside the fellowship hall. This sale will benefit local scholarships and charities.

Feed the Need

Feed the Need is a non-profit organization based in Bastrop whose mission is to feed people physically and spiritually. They will provide free burgers every Monday at 6:30 p.m. at 901 Mode Lane. This location is near White Rock Park in La Grange and everyone is welcome.

Parkinson’s Support Group

For anyone struggling with the Parkinson’s disease movement disorder, the group has reactivated in La Grange the third Thursday of every month for patients and caregivers.
