St. James BBQ
The St James Episcopal Men’s Club will hold a barbecue Saturday, March 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St across from H-E-B. A half chicken will be $3.50 and a sausage link $5, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of AMEN. The Holy Smokers will be observing COVID-19 protocols.
Second Saturday
Second Saturday on the Square is Saturday, March 13 from 3 to 6 p.m. with a Gaga Ball Tournament with prizes. Order food from local restaurants and food trucks and enjoy live music by Josh Tiemann. Shop local businesses and local vendors. Locally made snacks available. Handmade product vendors welcome.

Hermann Sons Life Shelby will meet for their quarterly meeting on Sunday, March 14 beginning at 5 p.m. at Harmonie Hall in Shelby. The lodge will furnish pork steaks. Members are asked to bring sides and desserts.

Barbecue To-Go In Fayetteville
The Fayetteville/Ellinger Knights of Columbus will be serving barbecue to go on Sunday, March 14. Whole chicken is $9, sausage is $6, and a rack of ribs is $18. FYI Series Lunch & Learn
The Winedale Lunch & Learn and the Round Top Family Library FYI bring you their next joint Zoom program: Houston’s Gulf Hotel Fire presented by Brady Hutchison on Tuesday, March 16 at noon. During World War II Houston joined other cities in manufacturing war materials for the Allied Powers. Thousands of newly arrived workers lodged in hotels such as the Gulf Hotel at Preston and Louisiana in downtown Houston. Early on Sept. 7, 1943 a fire at the hotel killed 55 men in Houston’s worst fire-related tragedy. 23 victims were never identified and buried in a mass grave. This presentation will tell the story of the fire and its aftermath. Hutchison is a retired firefighter/ arson investigator turned history professor and author who currently teaches US History at Wharton County Junior College. Parkinson’s Support Group
For anyone struggling with the Parkinson’s Disease movement disorder, the group has reactivated in La Grange the third Thursday of every month for patients and caregivers. This months meeting is March 18. The meetings begin at 10 a.m. at the Randolph Recreation Center located at 653 E. Pearl Street. For more information, call (832) 561-1447.
FC Republican Women Meeting
The Fayette County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, March 18 at The Wine Haus, 110 W. North Street, in Flatonia. Social time starts at 6 p.m. with the business meeting at 6:30 p.m. Featured speaker will be Alice Mundy, Texas Federation of Republican Women District Director. Topic: What Federation means for FCRW and how it benefits our club; actions we’re required to comply with; relevance to Republican leadership and our impact on successful election and legislative outcomes. Easter Egg Hunt At White Rock Park
The City of La Grange Recreation Department, with assistance and volunteers from the Anchor and Leo Clubs of La Grange, will host the annual Easter Egg Hunt, a communitywide event, at White Rock Park on Mode Lane. The event will be held on Saturday, March 20 from 9 to 11 a.m. The Easter Bunny will be there, so bring your phones/cameras for pictures of your youth and/or family with the Bunny during the event. Participants will be divided into the following age groups for the egg hunts: 1-2; 3-4; 5-6; 7-8; 9-12 year; teen to adult. Participants in all age categories will be seeking candy and trinket filled eggs and some that hold special prize tickets inside. If rained-out, the event will be moved to Sunday, March 21, from 3 to 5 p.m. at White Rock Park.
Community Open House
La Grange ISD will host a community open house of the new La Grange Elementary School located at 315 South Jackson on Sunday, March 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. The new building will be open for the public to visit the school and take a self-guided tour of the facility. Those in attendance will be required to wear a mask and are encouraged to observe social distancing guidelines while touring the building. Latium Wesley Greenvine Variety Shoot
The Latium-Wesley-Greenvine Volunteer Fire Department is holding a variety shoot on Sunday, March 21 beginning at 12 noon at Harmonie Hall in Shelby. Shells will be furnished and hamburgers will be available.
Drive Thru Dinner & Bake Sale
The Farm Bureau of Fayette County is hosting a drive thru meal of chicken fried steak with gravy, mashed potatoes, a vegetable and roll at the La Grange KC Hall Tuesday, March 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. Call (979) 968-5889 or stop by 411 E. Colorado St. in La Grange to reserve plates. A limited number of plates will be available without reservation. A free-will donation will be collected to benefit Fayette County Food Pantries.
Feed The Need
Feed the Need Missions is a non-profit organization based in Bastrop whose mission is to feed people physically and spiritually. They will provide free burgers every Monday at 6:30 p.m. at 901 Mode Lane. This location is near White Rock Park in La Grange and everyone is welcome.
AMEN Continues with Mask Wearing
The AMEN Food Pantry will continue the wearing of masks for patrons receiving food along with volunteers. This policy will remain until further notice.
Bluebonnet Lions Club Scholarships
The La Grange Bluebonnet Lions Club is now taking applications for 2021 scholarships. Students eligible are: 2021 La Grange High School graduating seniors that will be attending a college or trade school, and former LGISD students currently enrolled in a college or trade school. Applications for graduating seniors are available online at lgisd.net. Current college/trade school students can find the application at La Grange Bluebonnet Lions Club e-clubhouse.
