Pursuit Starts in Smithville, Ends in La Grange

A high-speed pursuit that began in Smithville ended in a footchase in La Grange early Monday morning.

According to a report from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Smithville Police attempted to pull over a Black BMW late Sunday night, Dec. 5. The vehicle was reported stolen out of San Antonio. Four people were inside the vehicle.

Smithville Police chased the car east on State Hwy. 71. The car exited at US 77 and continued south into La Grange. Suspects stopped and bailed out of the car in the vicinity of Franklin St. and Jefferson St.

Smithville Police, La Grange Police and deputies from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office chased the suspects on foot. Officers managed to capture all four. Two of them were found hiding behind a dryer in a shed in the 200 block of S. Jefferson.

Lt. David Beyer of the Sheriff’s Office said three of the suspects were juveniles. One of the juveniles was a runaway from Baytown. Another suspect had an active warrant for evading arrest, Beyer said.

Beyer said all four suspects were handed over to Smithville Police.
