Police Pursuit Leaves I-10 Backed-Up
A police pursuit ended in a standoff that shut down both sides of Interstate 10 for about an hour on Monday morning, May 10. The chase began in Gonzales County. According to a report from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, deputies here assisted the Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office with the pursuit. The fleeing vehicle, pictured above, left, was stolen from the San Antonio area and stalled in Fayette County to end the chase. A stand off ensued with a lone occupant of the vehicle for several minutes. The Austin/Fayette County Special Response Team was activated. Prior to the arrival of the team, Sgt. Randy Thumann, K-9 Kolt, and Sgt. Charles Jobb approached the vehicle and the driver was taken into custody with the assistance of Deputy Terry Guentert. The suspect was turned over to Gonzales County Authorities and all law enforcement cleared the scene. Numerous agencies including Schulenburg and Flatonia Police Departments, as well as the Texas Department of Public Safety assisted.
