Patrick Lyons Takes Honor Flight to D.C.
Patrick Lyons got to experience a “Trip of a Lifetime” with Honor Flight. He was flown to Washington D.C. where he and other honored veterans were given a whirlwind tour of the city and their memorials. Pat was one of four veterans chosen to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Sentinel shook his hand afterwards. This is an honor usually reserved only for Presidents and visiting dignitaries.
Pat was a LRRP Ranger in Vietnam, who came home as a wounded warrior on a stretcher to a country that did not welcome him back. The Honor Flight experience allows those who were denied the Heroes’ Welcome they deserved to finally experience the true home coming they deserved. He was met on his return home by a warm crowd of family and friends who let the soldiers know they are loved and appreciated even all these years later. Patrick was awarded the Silver Star for Valor and a Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam.
Honor Flight Austin sends veterans free of charge to our nation’s capital. They fly as many WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War Veterans on this “Trip of a Lifetime” to let them know they have not been forgotten for their service and their sacrifice. Out and About
Frank and Kathy Chlumsky took off for Katy recently to celebrate their grandson Connor Dong’s tenth birthday. They had fun with an afternoon of Nerf war games and cake. Connor had lots of friends in attendance along with his family.
Highline Repairs
If you have seen a helicopter flying around in the Muldoon area, it was busy (on the non windy days) doing some cable replacement on the big highline that crosses the area. It was an interesting sight to watch the skill the pilot demonstrated as he lifted a worker along with a “wheel/pulley” on a long line up to the top of the towers. Then he would fly another worker as he hung out of the helicopter to work on the highline. It was some amazing skills on display for those lucky enough to have gotten to see the operation.
Weather
Wednesday saw a change in the weather in the area. A cold rain and a drop in temperatures were experienced when the front blew through mid day. Things are definitely feeling a lot more like fall. Rainfall for Wednesday was around an inch and one half that started falling around mid day. Temperatures dropped into the fifties and lows for overnight are looking to be the chilliest of the season so far.
