Over 1,000 Plates Served at Ellinger VFD Feast
The Ellinger Volunteer Fire Department held its Annual Feast and Fundraiser on Sunday, April 25. People from all over Fayette County and beyond came out to the Ellinger Community Center to get the barbecue chicken and sausage meal.
Firemen and friends were up in the wee morning hours firing up the pits and cooking the chickens. Plates were prepared and handed out at a drive thru line. Almost 1,200 plates were sold. Everyone worked diligently and the lines ran smoothly.
At 1:30 p.m. the live auction got underway under the outdoor pavilion. There was a good turnout for the sale of so many unique and popular items. The auction and meal brought in more money than in previous years because of the support from so many. The weather was great, the support was wonderful, and the event was deemed a huge success.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to purchase new firefighting equipment.

Igloo IMX Cooler. Additionally winners of the card drawings were Mike Stellke (Belelli Nova Camo 12 guage shotgun, and Jeff James(9 mm Ruger pistol with ammo.)
Ellinger VFD
The Ellinger VFD will hold its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the fire station. It will drill on Wednesday, May 19.
St. John Lutheran Church
St. John Lutheran Church of Rutersville will be sponsoring a fundraiser on Saturday, May 8. This will be a chicken fried pork steak dinner.
Ellinger Sewer and Water
The Ellinger Sewer and Water Supply Corporation will hold its regular monthly meeting on Monday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at the Ellinger Fire Station. Officers for the Corporation are Greg Hunger-president; Randy Robertson-Vice President; and Roy Moore-Secretary/Treasurer. Holding director positions are Bradley Dunk, Ruth Horndt, Laura Brugger, and Michael Schlabach.
Ellinger C of C
The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce is busy getting ready for its 84th Annual Tomato Festival scheduled for Sunday, May
30 at the Ellinger Communtiy Center. There will be a drive thru Chamber fried chicken and sausage meal with all the trimmings. Plates may be picked up starting at 10:30 a.m. for $12 per plate. A barbecue cook off has also been scheduled. On Friday, May 28 there will be a Chef’s Choice Entrée, dessert, salsa and chips competition. On Saturday, May 29, contestants will be competing for cash prizes for best brisket, pork ribs, pork butts, chicken, and pinto beans. There will be live music, raffles, and an auction. Additionally there will be a Chopped Challenge – secret ingredients, local celebrity judges, live final showdown. Pre-registration is required. 4-H Livestock Judging
Fayette County 4-H members participated in the District 4-H Livestock Judging Contest on Saturday, April 24 in Bryan. The fourth place Intermediate Team winners were Logan Poncik, Rheagan Karisch, Harper Mau, and Reisy Janca (pictured on A2).
Fayetteville Brethren Church
Fayetteville Brethren Church has services the second and fourth Saturdays of each month at 10 a.m. COVID-19 protocols will be followed. Other services are at Industry Brethren on the second, third and fourth Saturdays at 5 p.m., Wesley Brethren on Sundays at 9 a.m. and Nelsonville Brethren on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. Rev. Mike Groseclose leads all the services. The Nelsonville service is live streamed on Nelsonville Brethren’s Facebook page.
Rain
The drought is not over by a long shot, but the Ellinger Community did receive about a half inch of rain last week. Just a reminder to be careful with outdoor burning and conserve water.
