One of County’s Last Surviving WWII Veterans, Carl Jaehne, Honored as He Approaches His 100th Birthday
On Sunday, December 14, the Round Top Area Historical Society honored longtime community member and generous benefactor Carl Jaehne with a celebration marking his upcoming 100th birthday on January 10.
The event was held at the Jaehne Educational & Cultural Pavilion at 3907 E. Mill Street, a space that stands as a testament to Carl’s lasting support of the organization and the community.
Carl Jaehne is a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a respected figure in the Round Top area. He and his beloved wife, LaVerne, were married for 72 devoted years and shared a deep love for Round Top and its people. Throughout the years, the couple actively supported the Round Top Area Historical Society through both generous contributions and enthusiastic participation in its events and programs.
The celebration brought together friends, family, and community members to recognize Carl’s military service, lifelong generosity, and enduring commitment to preserving Round Top’s history. His legacy, along with that of his late wife, continues to strengthen the community they so deeply cherished.
Special thanks are extended to Round Top Historical Society founding member Rose Diers for the festive preparation of the 100th birthday celebration, and to former Houston City Councilwoman Brenda Stardig for her presentation of resolutions from Governor Greg Abbott and State Representative Lacey Hull, as well as the Texas Capitol flag and a proclamation from Houston Mayor John Whitmire. The Round Top Area Historical Society gratefully acknowledges Kathy Schatte and Frank Williams, Vietnam Vet, of the Quade-Werchan American Legion Post 338 for honoring Carl Jaehne’s distinguished military service.
