NVCC Open After Winter Weather

Navidad Valley Community Connections (NVCC) routinely calls our members to check in on them and to inform them of what’s going on at the Center and invite them to come on in. This is where we share what’s going on in each other’s worlds and where relationships are built. So many tell me they are grateful for the call and appreciate us thinking about them. These calls are a comfort to some. During these icy storm days, folks were cooped up for a whole new reason, first COVID-19 and now an ice storm. Isolation and loneliness do begin to set in after a period of time, especially if you live alone.

The services of Navidad Valley Community Connections help to bridge that gap and lets people know that there is somewhere they can come to be with their friends and that there is somewhere they can call, should an urgent need arise. The Center being closed this past week because of the ice storm was best for the overall safety of members, volunteers, and staff, but it was hard on folks not being able to move about as freely as they are used to.

As we look ahead, the NVCC Center will open beginning Monday, Feb. 22 at 9 a.m. for a warm cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. On Wednesday, we’ll open the doors at 9 a.m. with hot coffee and tea. After our usual morning of games and revelry, on the menu will be fried fish with mixed veggies, a side salad and dessert that we missed the week before. Then, there will be a rousing hour or two of bingo and bingo prizes, so we hope to see you all there.

NVCC will gladly adopt any office chairs with wheels that you wouldn’t mind getting rid of, to facilitate the comfort for some of our older adults who find it hard to sit for long periods of time. To donate a gently used office chair, call Cindy Villarreal at (979) 309-9592.
