NVCC Hears From Historical Museum

On March 22, NVCC had a visit from David Carpenter and Elroy Dieringer, board members at the Schulenburg Historical Museum, located in downtown Schulenburg. They told members about how the museum got started, the age and history of the building and they described growing into the new side of their building, and how they discovered the original joists held together with individually made square-headed nails.

When asked what was their favorite article in the museum, Elroy got emotional and stood up straight, and told us about the Veterans Section and why it was so meaningful to him.

David Carpenter brought some articles from the museum to show us and we sure were glad shoes have laces and Velcro now instead of the buttons and clips women used back in the 1920-1930s to buckle their shoes. There was a light that the watchmen used to clock in as they made their rounds that were from circa 1930s. We just loved listening to the stories, hearing the old family names, and finding out how these articles came to be in the museum. Thank you David Carpenter and Elroy Dieringer for telling us about the Schulenburg Historical Museum. They are a non-profit organization and operate off donations and personal contributions.

The Hatari Wildlife Park trip is still on. We still have two slots available. The ticket price for seniors is $25 each. A generous donor has offered to pay the first $20 for 10 participants. This means that your ticket will cost you $5 and maybe your lunch if we decide to eat out.

The Mother’s Day quilt will be at the Schulenburg City Hall lobby, where she will be laid over a quilt rack and displayed from Monday, April 19 through Thursday, April 22.
