No Rewriting History

To the Editor:

Neale Rabensburg’s attempt to rewrite history (Letter to editor, May 28, 2021) is not only ludicrous on its face. It also is contemptuous toward an amazingly patient and kind mayor of La Grange.

Janet Moerbe has suffered the abuse of the so-called Citizens Alliance at public meetings and in more private settings for years. Their behavior embarrassed many and their numbers declined. Yet Mr. Rabensburg now has the gall to claim that the Citizens Alliance was “actually in support of the Hope Hill project.” What nonsense.

When they lost their longrunning battle to prevent new houses in this neighborhood, they showed up at the dedication of the first completed home and put on big smiles. What hypocrisy.

During the recovery from Hurricane Harvey, the Disaster Recovery Team logged 1,046 volunteers giving 35,447 hours of service toward cleaning, repairing and helping Harvey survivors, by the end of 2018 alone. Over 193 local families were assisted. A total of 11 brand new homes were built, mostly by volunteers from Mennonite Disaster Services.

Now 20 wonderful families have beautiful new homes in Hope Hill, thanks to Samaritan’s Purse. And Mr. Rabensburg thinks he’s the one who deserves the credit. Thank you, Mayor Moerbe, for all you did for the people of La Grange over the past 33 years of public service. You’ve been a blessing to us all.
