New Leon’s Crossing Housing Development Coming to Northrup Area
A new housing development is in the works in the Northrup area of Lee County. Scott Wallace of Wallace Construction is developing Leon’s Crossing on 9.89 acres of land at CR 216 and CR 217. There will be six tracts, that will range from 1.0 to 1.8 acres and will include electricity and water. All homes in the development will be a minimum of 2,000 sq. ft. The company is hopeful of beginning phase 1 by mid-September.
Condolences
Sympathy is extended to Scott and Sherry Schramm and family on the death of Sherry’s grandma, Frances Roeber on July 16. Her funeral was at St. Paul, Serbin on July 19.
Lehmann/Woyte Reunion
The Lehmann/Woyte Reunion will be held on Sunday, August 1 at the Holy Cross picnic grounds from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Drinks and paper goods will be supplied. Families are asked to bring a dish to share for the potluck meal.
Healing Hearts and Friends
The Healing Hearts and Friends Group next event will be an early evening music event in Bastrop on Aug. 5. They will be attending The Farm Street Opry and having dinner at Bassano Del Grappe prior to the opry. The group will meet at Holy Cross Church and leave at 4:30 p.m. Cost is $7.50 plus your meal. Please contact Emily Matheson at (979) 250-3027 by Aug. 2 so they can make reservations. Everyone is invited to join for an evening of fellowship and fun.
Faith Lutheran High School
FLHS will begin the new school year on Aug. 18. They are excited to welcome in-coming freshman students and are looking forward to a wonderful school year. The opening service for the 2021-22 school year will be held on Sunday, Aug. 22 at 3 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. This will officially open their fifth academic school year. “Transformed” based on Romans 12:2 is the theme for this school year. A worship service will be held and led by association pastors, with the sermon by Pastor Dustin Beck. An offering will be collected to support the FLHS Scholarship Fund. A potluck dessert and punch reception will follow.
The annual student retreat to Camp Lone Star is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, Aug. 26-27. This annual student retreat is a wonderful opportunity for the students to participate in challenge courses.
Registration is under way for the 2021-2022 school year at FLHS. Currently there are 17 students enrolled. If you are looking for a Christ-centered education, a rigorous college prep curriculum and a small class size, contact the school at 979-242-2889 and schedule a visit. There is a scholarship program available.

Benefit for Conway Whited
A benefit for Conway Whited, infant son of Justin and Amanda Whited, will be held Sunday Aug. 22 at the Holy Cross picnic grounds. A drive thru meal will be served from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. consisting of pork steak, green beans, corn, homemade noodles and bread. Tickets are $12 each. Baked goods will be available for a free-will donation. Raffle tickets are also being sold for $20 each. The drawing will be held at 2 p.m. on the same day. Winners do not have to be present to win and it will be streamed via Facebook live. Holy Cross Annual Picnic
Holy Cross will be having their church picnic this year. Mark your calendars for Labor Day weekend Sunday Sept. 5. There will be lots of great BBQ, the ladies will have side dishes available and as always lots of great baked goods. An afternoon of music and a live auction are planned. 150th Anniversary
The 150th Anniversary Committee at Holy Cross Lutheran is looking for people who would be willing to be interviewed about the history of Holy Cross and the Warda community for the 150th Anniversary book/video. Interviews are flexible and will be scheduled at a location, time and date that is convenient for you. Bible Study
The Bible study group at Holy Cross is doing a study on “The Chosen” on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m. This is the official companion study to season 1 of “The Chosen”, the groundbreaking television series about the life of Jesus.
