Navidad Valley Community Connections Receives $10,000 Second Chance Grant
Second Chance Emporium recently donated $10,000 to Navidad Valley Community Connections to be used for the development of a strategic plan that includes a comprehensive marketing and fundraising plan to support future operations of the organization. On Monday, Jan. 31, NVCC will welcome Sally Garrett and Jennifer Boening, from the AgriLife Extension Center in La Grange, back to continue their healthy eating program as the lunch and learn series speakers at the center. They will be presenting session three of a foursession program on healthy eating as we explore the topic of good carbs. Their program starts at noon and everyone is welcome to attend.
Navidad Valley Community Connections Senior Center was granted an award of $10,000 from the Second Chance Emporium. Second Chance is supporting NVCC through its organizational development phase and have acted as a catalyst to this development by providing some vital tools and learning opportunities for staff to use to develop new processes and collaborate with local experts such as facilitators for strategic planning, graphic artists for promotional materials, updated technology and support.
The NVCC marketing plan can now begin to grow. NVCC will have a three-year plan, with marketing and fund-raising plans embedded, with an annual calendar to follow. Now, it is NVCC’s time to grow into the next level of organizational development with Second Chance Emporium believing in its mission and supporting its efforts.
The organization is focused on a “from good to better” mindset and to garner community support is important to NVCC. As NVCC becomes more enlightened and set goals for increasing visibility within local communities, NVCC will be making presentations to civic clubs, schools, law enforcement officials, churches and other organizations around Schulenburg, Weimar, Flatonia, La Grange, and surrounding areas to let communities know what a senior center does that makes it an asset to its members. The senior center in Schulenburg is the only one within a 50-mile radius, and it is a great model to recreate in small towns so folks won’t have to travel as far, and it is open for Fayette County residents and surrounding area.
The next good news is that you will soon see a new sign up on the building. The Brossmann family has been gracious in agreement that NVCC needs to have its own identity. As soon as you drive in, the new sign will be visible for all to see. NVCC appreciates the City of Schulenburg, the American Legion, Sheila Brossmann and family, and board members who have provided the sign and assisted to get it erected, Glenda Stavinoha and Elroy Dieringer.
If you are seeking a community speaker for your next upcoming civic club meeting, consider having the senior center as a guest speaker. Cindy Villarreal, Executive Director, will be happy to come by and provide information on the senior center to your group. NVCC always has a guest speaker on Monday and on Wednesdays members play bingo and always have fun. Feel free to come and join.
Some of the best fun members have had resulted from a partnership with Twisted Steel Design Studio in Weimar. Eight members attended an art class. Dana Sherrill, owner, and her assistant, Tamara Mailloux, were great instructors and were quite patient as they took members through the paces to create a masterpiece. Each participant kept their artwork, all materials were provided, and members did end up with a finished piece of art that is unique to them. NVCC members are looking forward to other projects and to working in collaboration with Twisted Steel Design.
