Navidad Valley Community Center Welcomes All For Fun And Fellowship

Things are chugging along at the Navidad Valley Community Connections Senior Center (NVCC). We are starting to get very busy, with more folks coming back each week.

Members played a rousing hour and a half of bingo with Mike Olle from Fayette Savings Bank in Schulenburg. Everyone was glad to see Mike and he was in the driving seat, calling those bingo numbers, closing the door on the 8’s, and calling for Shiner games with a blackout. Everyone loves Shiner with a blackout because they have to work at it. Come down and join us on a Wednesday for games, lunch, and bingo.

This past week members had some new folks come in to play Tarock with Irene Janda. Irene is an active member at the center and is always on the move looking for things to do. Her and her friends play Tarock regularly and she invited Helen Ohnheiser, Gloria Miksch and Clara Christ to come play with her at the center. They stayed for lunch with us and played bingo until the rain signaled it was time to get home that afternoon.

It was 9:30 a.m. and there were already three game tables full. One was a 42 table, another was the Tarock table, and the other was the Mexican Train dominoes game. There was a new person at the Mexican Train table, too. Alfreda Ellison was invited to the center by Carolyn Moore and she got introduced to the domino game. It did not take her long to fit right in with the group and catch on to the game.

Bob Stanzel popped in and greeted everyone. He stopped at each table and said hello to everyone. It was amazing to see everyone respond to him. He joked with Elroy Dieringer and he gave Irene praise for the homemade cherry topped cheesecake that she had brought. He was pleased that 16 people showed up for a day of fun and good company at the senior center.

Visit the NVCC website for the monthly schedule and the menu for each month, then make plans to come in and get busy hanging out with friends and neighbors.

There is now a sponsor for the birthdays of the month for a whole year. We let our community know our needs, and that is how they can contribute and make a difference for someone or for an organization that provides services for people like the Navidad Valley Community Connections Senior Center. NVCC appreciates the support and the confidence that our community shows towards NVCC. Because of that support NVCC can continue providing a safe place for our seniors to come to and be comfortable where they see their friends and get involved in projects and activities to stay busy.

NVCC is still looking for sponsors. NVCC is exploring the possibility of a nice sign to go up right in front of the building so everyone can see where we are located. If you would like to call bingo, we also need one more corporate sponsor for bingo on the second Wednesday of each month. It’s a great way to show some civic involvement and get your company name out in the public.

Navidad Valley Community Connections is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization with a mission “to provide a multipurpose organization that initiates, sponsors, and promotes events, activities, and projects which enhance the quality of life for older adults in Fayette County and the surrounding communities.” NVCC is located next door to the Boys & Girls Club in Wolters Park.
