Navidad Valley Center Closed Aug. 1-9 for Schulenburg Festival
With the Schulenburg Festival coming up, there has been so much activity at Wolters Park. NVCC will be closed from Aug. 1-9 for safety reasons as city crews work on Schulenburg Festival preparations. This past week, there has been heavy equipment like sky-lifts, dump trucks, fork-lifts and the chattering noise of chain saws, so there are various safety concerns and we must minimize the chance for any damage or accidents. The center wil be open for the rest of July.
The Lunch & Learn series speakers come in on Mondays and speak to members on educational and informative topics that are relevant to them.
On Monday, July 19, Lucy Stanzel and Janette Streit, from the Stanzel Airplane Museum, joined to tell members all about how the museum came to be and what to expect when you visit.
On Monday, July 26, NVCC will have the Honorable Joe Weber, Fayette County Judge, come and join for lunch. He’ll tell members all about what’s going on in the area, any priorities that we should know about, and he will get to have a dialog with members. This is a special time for members, because these Lunch & Learn visits are just for them. They get a special time to hear from the experts to get answers to their questions. The speakers get to hear first-hand from members and get to listen to their concerns, so the climate is one of mutual benefit.
NVCC is now working to get more speakers in front of members for the months of August and September, so if you or your company would like to have an opportunity to speak to members at the Center, please give us a call so we can get you on the calendar.
This Wednesday, July 21, there will be pork ribs on the menu and Shannon McBride will come in to call Bingo. Shannon also brings some cool and different bingo prizes with him, so he is always welcome at the Center.
NVCC is on the lookout for business sponsors to help Navidad Valley Community Connections Center with various endeavors. NVCC will be getting a landline telephone with an answering machine so we can capture all calls and will return messages within 24 hours. We will be getting a cordless phone with a base to better serve our members and their needs. Better communication is a key feature that we are emphasizing and are diligently working on at NVCC.
Another sponsorship opportunity is to sponsor a lunch for the small groups who plan to attend day trips, like to the museums in Schulenburg, Weimar, La Grange and surrounding areas. We usually plan an outing like this once a month. We have had one sponsor offer to cover a lunch at Tillie’s or at Tito’s, or Whataburger for our next outing and we so appreciate that.

Again, as a local non-profit organization, we could not keep the doors open or provide the services that we do provide for our members without the support of individuals, the business community, and the grant providers in our area, as well.
The Board of Director’s is working on a strategic plan for the next three years and our committee structure is beginning to form, so we are committed to moving our organization from good to great. We are working on creating a model that can be duplicated in the other small communities in the area, and while this is no easy task, we give thanks to all for supporting us as we go through this transition.
