Motorcyclist Dies on Interstate-10 Here

A motorcyclist died in a wreck on Interstate 10 at mile marker 666 between Schulenburg and Flatonia Friday night.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. on Aug. 6. A report from the Texas Department of Public Safety said 31-year-old Mallory Baskins of Conroe was driving a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle east in the inside lane of traffic. The report said an unknown dark colored SUV cut off and possibly struck the motorcycle.

The motorcycle flipped several times and ejected Baskins into the center median.

Traffic on the Interstate quickly came to a stop. A 2008 Freightliner truck-tractor pulling a trailer was unable to stop. The driver, Yorlanvy Batista, 44 of Middlesburg, Florida, took evasive action to avoid the crash. He veered into the center median and ran over Baskins.

Baskins died at the scene.

First responders were working to clear the wreckage when another accident happened on the same stretch of roadway. Details about the secondary accident were not available at the time of this publication.
