Local government treasuries continue to see increases in their sales tax revenue this year, although the rate of growth seems to be slowing. October payments from the State Comptroller’s Office have Fayette County and six of its seven towns in the black for this point in 2025.

Fayetteville has seen the greatest growth compared to last year. It’s up 19.8% in 2025, with $134,132 so far. That still is not as much as Fayetteville earned in 2024, however. Through October of that year, it had received $182,330.

Round Top is the other town in the county with exceptional gains, up 14.9% from last year. With $429,399 so far in 2025, this if by far the tiny town’s best year ever. Cities get taxes only on sales made inside their city limits, which is a considerable limitation for Round Top. For sales outside the city limits, the state and county tax applies, but not the city tax.

La Grange, Schulenburg, Flatonia and Carmine are all up from last year, but only by single-digit amounts. La Grange has received just over $2.3 million through October, up 1.8% from a year ago. Schulenburg has received just over $1.1 million, up 2.9%.

Ellinger is the county’s only town with a decrease from last year, a dip of 4.4%.

Six of the nine area coun-ties tracked by the Record are up from last year, while three are down. Fayette County has collected over $2.7 million so far, up 2.8%.

Austin County has the area’s greatest growth, up 36.2%. Sealy, its largest town, is up 13.2%, so most of the growth apparently has come at businesses outside the city limits. Bastrop County is up 10.1%, with Washington, Caldwell and Burleson up by single digits.

Gonzales, Colorado and Lee counties are all down for the year.
