More Vaccines on the Way

Any locals upset by an inability to get the COVID vaccine are not alone, and the anger is warranted, said Fayette County Emergency Management Coordinator Craig Moreau.

“If anyone is frustrated they have a reason to be, but we have our foot to the floor trying to get more vaccine here,” Moreau said.

Many locals spent last week calling repeatedly trying to get on the list for 2,000 vaccines distributed at the six-county sub-Hub Wednesday in Brenham.

But they were competing with thousands of others for those slots, so many county residents did not get through for appointments.

Some 2,000 additional COVID vaccines arrived in Brenham Saturday and folks that were on the waiting list to get the shots have begun getting callbacks for appointments.

That new round of 2,000 vaccinations (following on the heels of the 2,000 who were vaccinated last week) begins this Tuesday by appointment.

But if you are not on the waiting list in Brenham, Moreau suggests getting on St. Mark’s waiting list if you have not already done so.

St. Mark’s got 200 additional vaccines this week, and Moreau said Fayette County officials are putting “a lot of pressure” on the state for more.

“We’re supporting the sub-Hub in Brenham but that is not in lieu of trying to get the vaccine here,” Moreau said. “We want to let people know there are other options out there, but our main goal it to get more vaccines here in Fayette County.”

“3.5 percent of our county has been vaccinated at least with the first dose,” Moreau said. “We’ve shown clear evidence that this county is more than capable of getting the vaccine out and getting it out quickly.” Moreau said Fayette County officials have been partnering with Lee County officials for more clout in getting vaccines locally.

The number to call to add your name to St. Mark’s waiting list for the vaccine is 242-2325.

“Note that you will not receive a confirmation call back, however, be assured that your name and contact information have been added to our list. Appointment calls will be made as vaccine supply is available,” St. Mark’s has previously said in a statement.

COVID Numbers To Know

• The latest COVID-19 numbers here according to county officials was 13 active cases, 16 probable cases, 1,370 recoveries and 18 deaths.

• According to the state of Texas Department of Health and Human Services there were 143 active cases in Fayette County as of Sunday and 45 total COVIDrelated deaths since the start of the pandemic.

• According to the state of Texas Department of Health and Human Services, 890 people in Fayette County had received at least one dose of the vaccine as of Sunday, 573 in Lee County, 1,073 in Lavaca County, 711 in Colorado County and 1,379 in Austin County.
