Michelle Recek Remembered at Oct. LGISD Board Meeting
The La Grange ISD Board of Trustees met on Monday, Oct. 20. Here are some of the highlights from that meeting: Special recognition was given for a $200 donation to the needy student fund in honor of Michelle Recek (former teacher who passed away last year,) supporting students in financial need. Along with the donation was a comment written by Leticia Solorzano and Sharon Novak. They wrote, “Michelle was more than an educator. She was a devoted mother, a cherished friend, and a fierce advocate for her students.
“She gave selflessly, offering time, love, and support to any child in need. Though she’s no longer with us, her legacy lives on. Through this gift, Michelle continues to do what she always did best, helping students.
“Her kindness, strength, and unwavering belief in others will never be forgotten.”
Administrative Reports
Superintendent Andy McHazlett reported the the current enrollment is 1,838 which is made up of 936 at the elementary campus, 293 at the middle school campus, and 606 at the high school campus. The largest grade at the elementary campus is the fourth grade with 150. The largest grade at the middle school is the seventh grade with 149, and the largest grade at the high school is the freshman with 170. The current ADA (average daily attendance) is 1,739.64. This is the number that determines funding from the state. Assistant Superintendant Stacy Eilers gave a report on the mentoring program. She told the board that there are ten people currently mentoring students and two others that will start in two weeks. She also reported on the first staff development Friday of the year. She said, “ We did everything from Leader in Me to Capturing Kids’ Hearts to unit planning, looking at data. We had a childcare for only for staff children on this Friday.
Thanksgiving Dinner at LGISD
The elementary cafeteria Thanksgiving meals-with-parents schedule will be: Nov. 17 - PreK, kindergarten, 1st grade, and 5th grade Nov. 18 - 3rd-4th grade Nov. 19 - 2nd grade and 6th grade The middle school and high school will both have the Thanksgiving meal on Monday, Nov. 17.
