Michael Corker Nominated for Texas Co-op Power of our People Feature

Michael Corker

In this month’s edition of the Texas Co-op Power magazine, many Fayette County residents might recognize a familiar face. Michael Corker who co-owns Hart Land Real Estate and who has served for more than 15 years as a board member of the St. Mark’s Medical Center Foundation was nominated for the magazine’s Power of Our People feature.

Power of Our People recognizes co-op members who improve their community’s quality of life. Corker was recognized for helping south Central Texas address the challenges facing rural health care. St. Mark’s opened in La Grange in 2005 during a time when rural hospitals were closing. The 100,000-sq-ft, 65-bed facility, with specialty clinics, is also a member of Fayette Electric Cooperative.

Corker, a Fayette Electric Cooperative member, said, “We can provide the same great level of health care found in major cities.” Regional health care is not only Corker’s mark on the community. Linda Morrison, a La Grange businesswoman and who has worked with Corker on the Main Street program as well as other causes said, “He is just as committed to picking up trash on the median for a Rotary Club project as he is to raising money to build a hospital. He works hard for what he believes is right.”
