La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery (left) hosted a breast cancer awareness “pop-up” event at the Fayette Public Library on Wednesday evening, Oct. 15. About 75 people attended.

Survivors, family members and caregivers met to share stories and remember loved ones. Kristina Moerbe, owner of Locally Baked, donated cookies and Sonic of La Grange donated water and coupons. Dockery wished to thank the staff at the library for their assistance.

“I didn’t know what to expect but I was very impressed with the turnout,” Dockery said. “People exchanged stories. We talked a lot about networking.”

Dockery had called on locals to wear pink on that day for breast cancer awareness. Many heeded the call. She shared photos of several local workplaces where the employees wore pink, including Fayette Savings Bank, H-E-B, the City of La Grange, Fayette Electric Co-op, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, and Powerscreen Texas, among others.

At Powerscreen, employees held a bake sale to raise money for breast cancer awareness. The company set up a big display in front of their business for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’ll stay up through the end of October.
