Matula Running for Pct. 4 Commissioner

Matula Running for Pct. 4 Commissioner

Hello, my name is Stephen Matula and I have lived my entire life in the Schulenburg area. Along with my wife Lisa, I have two daughters, Amber and Heather. I am pleased to announce that I have decided to enter the race for Precinct 4 County Commissioner on the Republican Party ticket.

After graduating from Schulenburg, I attended Blinn College for a year and then in 1987, I started working for the Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (later changed to TxDOT). I continued working between the construction and maintenance side of TxDOT and in 1999, was hired as the Maintenance Supervisor in Colorado County. In 2002, I returned to Fayette County as the Maintenance Supervisor, where I worked until 2013, when I accepted a position with the TxDOT Maintenance Division in Austin. There I oversaw the Texas Maintenance Assessment Program, which inspects all roadway assets across the entire statewide highway system, my duties also included a supporting role in Emergency Management operations at the state level.

My community involvement includes serving in various member and officer positions with the Schulenburg Young Farmers, the Schulenburg Junior Livestock Show as well as the Fayette County Fair Board of Directors. I am a parishioner of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, and have served at numerous fundraisers and picnics.

My 33 years of experience in roadway construction, maintenance and budgeting are a beneficial part of my qualifications for county commissioner. I have the knowledge to build a road that will give years of service to the public not having to be redone every few years. I understand what makes Fayette County a great place to live and work and know the importance of small town values and being a conservative steward of our tax dollars. Here in Fayette County, we enjoy a lower tax rate, along with expecting the best facilities and assets commonly found in more populated areas. Our tax dollars are important to sustain our way of life if elected, I will always listen to you, and do my best for you and Fayette County. I would appreciate your vote in the Republican Primary on March 1, 2022.
