Massive Fire Near Flatonia Rekindles

Flatonia Fire and Rescue responded again on Tuesday to the fire scene on Slo John Road near FM 609. The initial fire that burned 33 acres took place on Friday, Jan 15. Flatonia Fire Chief John Burleson said his department received another call Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 26, reporting more smoke in the area. Firefighters responded and discovered a tree smouldering, pictured left, which they cut down and put out. The Jan. 15 fire destroyed two mobile homes, several barns and out buildings, two tractors and up to 30 vehicles, including two restored classic cars.
