Man Pronounced Dead at St. Mark’s Medical Center After Being in Giddings Police Custody

On Monday at 11:18 p.m., Giddings Police Department Officers were dispatched to the area of N. Madison St. and E. Boundary in reference to a suspicious person.

Upon arrival, Officers located the suspected person who had climbed into a tree. The officers were successful in talking the subject out of the tree and the suspect became combative with officers. After being restrained, officers contacted EMS for medical evaluation of the suspect. The suspect was combative while EMS was on scene. The suspect was identified as Eseciel Flores (30 years of age) from Giddings. Officers transported Flores to St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange, where he was pronounced dead at 1:04 a.m. Two Giddings Police Officers have been placed on paid administrative leave as normal procedures following in-custody death incidents. The case is being investigated by the Texas Rangers.
