Library Work Delayed by Supply Chain Issues Too

In another local example of how national supply chain issues are affecting local operations, the Fayette Public Library’s renovations are taking way longer than expected (just like the river bridge work here).

The library has been closed since Oct. 1, and since then books have been stored in boxes upstairs. Meanwhile, the downstairs was getting a face-lift. But many of the furniture items that were supposed to arrive by the first week of November are now not scheduled to get to La Grange until the end of January.

“We’ve been closed for two months, we can’t be closed for another month,” said library director Allison Mackenzie.

She said she hopes to have limited services for the public available (checking out books, computer usage) before the end of the year.

When that happens, museum and archives staff will be able to help people in-person upstairs. Right now they are assisting the public via phone and email.

The grand re-opening with all the bells and whistles planned for the new library could be months away, however.

In the meantime, library staff are all still available to the public via phone and email.
