Liberty Tree Giveaway Gearing Up, With Student Volunteers Agreeing to Help

The Fayette County Semiquincentennial Committee will need some help on Oct. 3 to distribute the 250 Liberty Trees they’re giving away to mark America’s 250th Anniversary. This week, the La Grange High School Leo Club stepped up to offer their assistance.

Committee chairman Larry Jackson spoke to the Leo Club at their meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

He gave a talk about the Liberty Tree project. Anyone from Fayette County could sign up to receive a free tree. They could choose a bur oak, live oak, red oak, Monterrey oak or pecan tree. All 250 trees have now been given away, he said.

On Oct. 3, the recipients can pick up their trees at the Fayette County Recycling Center. The Committee will give each recipient a bag of mulch, three T-posts and a section of protective fencing.

Jackson asked for volunteers, and many of the Leo Club members signed up.
