LGPD Looking for Leads in Graffiti Case

La Grange Police are investigating an especially ugly case of graffiti that appears related to teenage bullying.

Police Chief David Gilbreath said someone “tagged” the old La Grange Plastics Plant on Colorado Street with some vulgar language over the weekend of Jan. 30-31. Then this past weekend, someone graffitied the names of two local teenage girls alongside the explicit words.

Gilbreath said the City has since painted over the graffiti.

“We tried to reach the owner to get him to clean it up but we couldn’t get a hold of him, so (the City) went ahead and had it painted over,” Gilbreath said.

“It’s a huge concern for everybody,” Gilbreath said. “The effects of bullying are serious. Gossiping and verbally abusive language can send a teenager into depression. It causes anxiety about their self-esteem. It’s not good.

“I don’t think the people who do it realize the harm it can cause,” Gilbreath added.

Gilbreath said his department is taking the case very seriously. He said several local parents have reached out to him with concerns since the graffiti appeared.
