LGPD Launches Bike Registration Programs After Thefts

La Grange Police Department is launching a bicycle registration program for residents. La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath told the City Council on Monday that he started the program in response to an uptick in stolen and abandoned bicycles.

“Every year the La Grange Police Department recovers a large number of bicycles,” Gilbreath said.

He said bicycle owners do not often record their bike’s serial number. The registration program will help police return stolen and abandoned bike to their rightful owners.

Registration is a quick and easy process. Bike owners need to provide contact information for the family, bicycle information including the serial number and a photo of the bike.

Owners can register their bicycles in-person at the police station, located at 243 South College St. in La Grange, or they can register online http:// www.cityoflg.com/departments/police.php. Click on the “Programs” link to access the bicycle registration form. Fill out the form and drop it off at the police station or email it to bicycles@ cityoflg.com.
