LGISD’s Enrollment Will Likely Keep Them in Class 4A

The La Grange School Board met on Monday, November 17. Here are some of the highlights from that meeting.

Administrative Reports

Superintendent Andy McHazlett reported that the total enrollment is 1,839 students. The numbers turned in for UIL realignment on October 31 was 607.5. That’s to total for grades 9-12. McHazlett stated, “That should put us at the low end of the 4A classification.” He continued, “We’ll know the first Monday in February where our new two year realignment classification will be.” He went on to tell the board that LGISD is in different districts for different events. “We’re in a different district for team tennis, a different district for swimming, and then one district for UIL academics. It kind of moves around.”

As for attendance, the overall district attendance is 96.28%. The numbers for ADA, which determines funding is 1741.61.

Assistant Superintendent Stacy Eilers told the board that the Veterans Day programs last week were excellent. There were three programs one at the high school/middle and two at the elementary.

She stated, “At the high school/middle school program, they actually let the veterans introduce themselves and tell a few stories if they wanted to. They played taps, the band played some pieces, and the middle school student council presented.

“At the elementary school programs, the sixth grade choir sang and did some thank yous, and they also did taps, and they honored all the military branches. It was very well done, and the veterans were very appreciative.”

Director of Operations and School Safety Sharon Muzny reported that as of last Friday, LGISD has a new stadium sound system that is working. La Grange hosted a playoff game Friday between Wallis and Lexington.

She also told the board that the high school will have half of the 200-hall tile replaced over Thanksgiving break. She also stated that they are looking at redoing some plumbing in the high school 300-hall bathrooms. She told them that there are some plumbing issues that have been going on for many years and many repairs have happened. “We’re now at the point where we’re having to dive a little bit deeper in a permanent fix there,” she said..

In school safety, Muzny reported that the district is expecting a door audit in December. She told the board, “That’s when they come in without letting us know what day they’ll be here to check their doors and make sure they’re locked and in good working condition.”

Campus Improvement Plans

Stacy Eilers presented the

campus improvement plans. Here are some highlights:

Elementary

Instructional coaching, campus playbook; co-teaching model for SPED; Leader in Me continues. Strong math focus due to new TEKS and textbooks; purposeful focus days for unit planning.

Middle School

Math HQIM adoption and support; double-blocking Grade 7 math for instruction plus intervention. Collaboration with elementary; Leader in Me continues.

High School

College readiness via College Bridge; TSIA prep; Edgenuity for credit support.

Capturing Kids’ Hearts continues; math focus aligned with TEKS/textbook changes.

District Improvement Plan

Eilers also presented the district improvement plan. Here is some information from the State Compensatory Education (SCE)

• Targets at-risk students using supplemental funds; aims to reduce achievement gaps.

• Largest at-risk indicators: dyslexia and not meeting standards on STAAR/EOC.

• New tracked indicator: chronic absenteeism (students absent more than 10% instructional time). Current count: 8 students out of 1,813 (0.4%).

• Make-up time does not remove chronic absentee classification for reporting.

• Compliance affirmed: funds used supplementally; programs demonstrate improved outcomes. Personnel

Wesley Fishet was hired as a grounds maintenance worker.

Library Materials

Library Book List #5 was presented for November 2025. The 30-day review process for this list will end December 17.

McHazlett reminded the board, “According to LGISD policy, between now and December 17, if any two board members, acting in concert, want to pull a book out to take some different action on during the following meeting on January 21, then please let me or Mr. Drab know.”

Library Book List #3 was approved at Monday night’s meeting.
