LGISD Talks Attendance, Intruder Audit

Superintendent Andy McHazlett reported on district attendance numbers at last week’s LGISD school board meeting:

• Overall attendance averages: Elementary 96.38%, Middle 96.27%, High 95.84%, District overall 96.18%.

• ADA reported as 1,740.

• Enrollment total: 1,846 students (Elementary 944, Middle 294, High 608).

• Largest grade cohorts: Elementary 4th grade (142), Middle 8th (160) and High 9th (160).

He told the board, “We got hit with the stomach bug and the flu bug and we had about 124 students just at the elementary absent Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, (before the break.)

He reminded the board that the next meeting will be January 21. This will be the January school board meeting. It is on a Wednesday, same place, same time, 6 p.m. start time.

Director of Operations and Safety Sharon Muzny reported that the new bus is expected to be delivered in the next two weeks.

She also told the board that the district had an intruder detection audit. She explained, “This is where they send a person, almost like an undercover person, to try to enter a building. They came by, the high school during the first week of December. It was while we were having the, Schmeckenfest basketball tournament.

“We passed. They went to high school, they also went through middle school to check their doors and the facility was passed. Staff did well, principals did well, and so we did do well. We’re expecting the elementary audit to happen at some point this semester. Again, we praise the campuses.”

A new list of library materials to purchase was presented at the January 5 LGISD board meeting. Based on the district guidelines, the board has until Feb. 4 to bring up any objections to any of the books on this list. The list will be acted on at the February meeting which will take place on Feb. 23. There were no objections to the list that had been presented at the October board meeting.
