LG Senior Citizens Hear About Hospital at Their Fall Meeting
The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center recently held its fall membership meeting and luncheon at the Randolph Recreation Center. Over sixty attendees were present for the membership meeting, guest speaker and meal.
Following the business meeting, the group enjoyed an informative presentation from DaniDominguezandKaciDavis from Progressive Health of Fayette. They shared information on the planned opening of the former St. Mark’s Hospital. Currently repairs and renovations are taking place with a planned opening in February. The hospital will be licensed as a rural emergency care facility. It will have ten beds in the emergency room as well as beds for patients who need observation. Those needing care beyond emergency services will be transferred to other facilities. The rural clinic will come later. The hospital is working with Bluebonnet Clinic for that phase. Later, other services will be added. Mr. Dominguez stressed that customer service is their priority. Kaci Davis began her nursing career at St. Mark’s. She is excited to be back in Fayette County and knows that the residents are looking forward to having a hospital nearby.
After the meeting was called to order by President Phil Oestreich, Board Member Larry Jackson said the prayer, and Board member Janet Moerbe led the group in the pledges to the American and Texas Flags.
Old business included accepting the minutes from the spring meeting presented by Secretary Helen Oestreich and the treasurer’s report presented by Treasurer Marilyn Strmiska. Updates were given about game day which is enjoying a continued increase in participants. Also, the group will be exploring whether there is a need for more transportation options for seniors in our community as well as how we can help promote the CARTs programs available in La Grange and throughout the county. Continued trips as well as local experiences for seniors are also a goal.
New business included information about the next day trip for the group. It will be on Sunday, February 15, 2026, to see the dramatic comedy Dear Jack, Dear Louise at the Unity Theater in Brenham. The group will leave from the Randolph Center at 11:30 and have lunch in Brenham before the play. The deadline to sign up is January 12. Contact Marilyn Strmiska at (979) 247-4090 to sign up. The cost for the play is $30 and each attendee will pay for their own meal. Transportation will include carpooling and the city activity bus.
Mr. Dominguez included his contact information for those who have questions as well as a QR code for a community needs assessment that all are encouraged to complete. His email is dani@phghealth.com and his number is (281) 802-1441. The company website is www. phghealth.com.
