Courthouse Damage Still Under Investigation

La Grange Police are investigating a pair of broken windows on the Courthouse Square, including one at the main entrance to the Courthouse.

La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath said Officer Bret Meinardus was dispatched to the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Studio on Sunday, Aug. 29, in reference to criminal mischief. Upon arrival, found a glass window to the studio had been broken.

Meinardus reviewed surveillance video. Gilbreath said Meinardus recognized a suspect in the video, whom he identified as 60-year-old Mitchell Williams of La Grange. Gilbreath said the video showed Williams throwing a piece of concrete into the window, causing it to shatter, and then Williams walking away.

Meinardus also observed a bench on the sidewalk along the Square had been damaged. In addition, the door window in the main entrance on the east side of the Courthouse had also been broken out. Gilbreath said the Courthouse damage occured sometime the night before, on Aug. 28.

Police arrested Williams for criminal mischief in regard to the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Studio damage. They are continuing the investigation into the courthouse damage.

In addition, Gilbreath said Williams was charged with retaliation in regard to an earlier incident involving a state employee whom Williams allegedly threatened. Williams remains behind bars at the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
