LG Council to Discuss Drainage at Nov. 22 Meeting

La Grange residents who suffered through unprecedented flash flooding this year won’t want to miss the next City Council meeting, scheduled for Nov. 22.

City Manager Shawn Raborn said that meeting will include an item concerning drainage problems in the City. Raborn said the City may need to consider changing the way it designs drainage infrastructure to deal with increasingly frequent flood events.

“We talk about a 100-year event and the probability of that,” Raborn told the City Council at a meeting Nov. 8. “But we’ve had two 100-year events and a 200-year event this season. Design issues – what are things designed for, how things were designed historically, and if we need to change that going forward.”

He said designing flood control infrastructure to handle greater levels of flooding would come with “huge financial implications.”

The City Council meeting on Nov. 22 takes place at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall
