Leopards Sweep Smithville in Middle School Football Action
It was a successful night last week on the gridiron for La Grange Middle School as all three Leopard football teams came away with victories over Smithville on Thursday night. The 7th Grade, 8th Grade Gold, and 8th Grade Purple teams combined for three wins and 84 points while holding Smithville to just 24 points.
7th Grade Leopards Dominate Smithville, 42-6
The 7th Grade Leopards wasted no time making their presence known, opening the game with an explosive special-teams play. Bentley Booker returned the opening kickoff 73 yards for a touchdown, immediately putting La Grange on the scoreboard.
The Leopards continued to build their lead as Crew Price connected with Bronxx Scott on a 36-yard touchdown pass. Keyonn Garner added the two-point conversion with a successful run.
Booker continued his outstanding night on offense, breaking loose for a 43-yard touchdown run and later adding another touchdown on a 20-yard run. Garner also found the end zone on a 12-yard touchdown run and added two-point conversion runs after both of Booker’s second touchdown and Price’s touchdown.
Quarterback Crew Price capped off the scoring with a 30yard touchdown run, while La Grange’s defense held Smithville to just one touchdown.
When the final whistle sounded, the Leopards had secured a convincing 42-6 victory.
8th Grade Gold Team Rolls to 28-6 Victory
The 8th Grade Gold Team continued the winning night with a strong 28-6 victory over Smithville.
Cameron Simmons connected with Uriel Lopez on a 22-yard touchdown pass to get the Leopards on the board. Special teams once again provided a spark as Nolan Surman returned a kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown.
The Leopards added a two-point conversion when Simmons found AJ Woody for the score.
Simmons then added a touchdown of his own, rushing for 15 yards to find the end zone. Jeremiah Perez finished off another Leopard scoring drive with a 6-yard touchdown run, and Simmons added the two-point conversion to complete the scoring.
The Gold Team’s offense and defense worked together throughout the game, allowing only six points and earning the Leopards their second victory of the night.
8th Grade Purple Team Holds On for 14-12 Win The 8th Grade Purple Team wrapped up the night with a hard-fought 14-12 victory over Smithville.
Maddox Kleiber provided all of the team’s touchdowns, scoring first on a 4-yard touchdown run before breaking loose for a 45-yard touchdown run later in the game.
With Smithville battling to stay within striking distance, the Leopards made the plays they needed to secure the victory. Jace Hayek connected with Austin Smith for a successful two-point conversion, helping give La Grange the points needed to hold on for the 14-12 win.
A Perfect Night for the Leopards
With all three teams picking up victories, it was a memorable night for La Grange Middle School football. The Leopards showed big-play ability on offense and special teams while making key defensive stops when needed.
The three teams will take the confidence from Thursday night’s victories back to practice as they continue their season and prepare for their next opponents.
